My wife is a Diablo II addict. She recently bought the Lord of
Destruction expansion pack, with the understanding that she could
transfer her well-developed characters to the new version. However,
after installing the expansion pack there does not seem to be any sign
of them, nor can she return to the original Diablo II game.

What gives? How do you do these things?

Assuming you are on the same comp, I always saw my original D2 multiplayer
toons when I fired up D2 expansion. When I selected a non xpac D2 toon I
was offered a box at the bottom of the screen (as you fire up the game) that
said something very similar to "Convert to Expansion Character". On
clicking that box it would turn my D2 non xpac toon into a D2 xpac toon. If
none of your wife's D2 multiplayer toons show up when you fire up the xpac,
I'm not really sure what is going on. Possible she built them Single
Player? Those I never tried to change over to xpac characters and am not
sure they can be. But Multiplayer toons I did convert using the Convert
button offered when I fired up xpac and saw my toon list.

Hope that Helps and Happy D2ing :)

You're kidding right? You click on the character and click the giant
'convert to expansion' button...
assuming your screen looks something like this

I can't see how you missed it. Does your screen look different??

She can't see her characters in the list anymore?

Sounds like the save folder her chars are in may have been moved or
otherwise not in the place expected by the game for whatever reason.

Run a search on the computer for *.d2s files and if you find them,go
to the folder they're in and move all the files in that folder to the
*Save* folder in the games current directory.
