And yes... I found an obsidian ring of the zodiac - 100% legit.
It gives my barbarian +36 resist. and +16 to all...
Is this a rare ring? It's kinda good.. :-)
As I've wrote before, I'v made a item hunt-list with my lvl 38 barbarian.
I'm only including items my barbarian or my friends characters (a bard lvl
32, sorcerer lvl 33 and a sorcerer lvl 37) could use..
In normal:
amulet of the zodiac
obsi. ring of the zidoac
obsi. ring of wizardry
jade amulet of stars
lords battle axe of speed
royal circlet
xorines ring
awesome plate of the lion
In nightmare:
masters sword of haste
ring of the heavens
mindcry
amulet of many
obsi. great helm of the lion
I spend about 3-4 hours in both normal and nightmare..
I see no real difference between items found in normal compared to items
found in nightmare.. Only the base items stat (full plate, great axe etc.)
and exp.....

Yeah, it's only about the rarest ring (or am) in the game, which is
why so many of them are duped. The stats on that one are a little low,
but I'd still take it :-) I have yet to find a single Obs/Zod jewel,
my level 41 HF V&K Rogue finally found her first prefixed Zodiac ring
a few weeks ago, Diamond or something like that, definitely *not* Obs.

Is this a rare ring you ask?!? It's the most RAREST out there lol!! I've
never even heard of anyone who would have found more than one of those, and
those who I know that have found one, I can count with the fingers of just
one hand :)
I've found only one myself, 33% resist all and +18 to all attributes, from
regular Diablo and after around 6-8 months of active Diablo playing :)
Obsidian of The Zodiac is *really* kinda good :)

It's EXTREMELY rare in Diablo, don't know about HF though... It seems to
be found more often there...

They are not all that great. In fact, I'd suggest that you ditch that one, and
send it my way. He he. Congrats!! Took me countless games and over 2 years
to find one of those beauties.

Hmm, is this a single player barbarian or MP? From what I understand,
finding Xorine's ring is rather tough too, and I never saw that one :/
Barbarians do seem to be more lucky than other classes. One of the programmers
at synergistc said that they "tweaked" the barbarian to make him more lucky,
but others have pointed out that considering the time based seed for
randomization, any tweaking would cause morphing of those items if they were
passed to other non barbarian characters. Maybe it only applies to single
player Barbarians if at all?

ring of the zodiac (+39, +20). Now i just had to start a new game and
try again. Surprise surprise, out of another chest popped a obs amu of
zod (+40, +18). After that night never again of course.
It seems that sometimes the game is in a certain mode. You find lots of
armor, or mainly swords or king's prefixes for a couple of days. Then
the next few days it is back to rags and clubs. Is it true that the game
use date/time as some kind of seed for item generation or is it just my
imagination? We tested this theory on several machines (both stand alone
and IPX network) and all machine seem to burb up similar
items/pre-/suffixes. Anybody know???

found then, hell, thats when I got my Rogue's Royal Circlet.
If that is the case, then finding the right date and setting your computer
to that date would be a great way to find that special item. But would it
be considered legit? I would, I dont know about some other people though.

I'm not sure just how tiny the variance in time seeds are, but I spent a couple
of days playing Y2K bug games (all games started exactly (well on the exact
second anyway) as 1999 turned into 2000. Every single game was different.
So, depending on just how tiny a slice a time the game uses (I think I saw
where standard Cmos clock is 55 milliseconds, but not sure) you might have to
play a few thousand games, even if you know the day of a good drop.
If someone gives you the exact time of a good drop and you use it, that's no
better than duping (IMO). If you speculate and try random times, than I don't
see where you are gainining any advantage. My best games item drop wise,
tend to be games that I almost didn't play, but decided to go ahead and play
one more game, or such.

First things first, An obs/zod jewel CANNOT come out of a chest. The ONLY
things that can legitimatly drop and obs/zod jewel are: Bloodknights, Sir
Gorash, Advocates, Lazures, soul burners, and whoever there boss is. But the
jewels can be found on all dificulties.

No. Items are not generated depending on the time. Diablo's engine randomly
creates items depending on: the difficulty you are playing, the dungeon level
you are on (dlvl), and the monster's level that you killed (mlvl) for a
complete breakdown on almost everything you need to know go to:

Obs/Zod jewelry are L30, and can thus be found from chests and barrles on
L15 (dlvl15*2 = 30), but ONLY on 15, since 16 has no barrels or chests.

Read your precious Jarulf's guide a bit closer... Obsidian of The Zodiac CAN
come out of a chest and barrels in dlvl 15. Would be possible to come out of
a chest in dlvl 16 too, but there ain't any there.
And Soul Burners doesn't have a boss btw. And your lists exludes Diablo with
his mlvl of 30.

The item GENERATION ain't depended on the time, but the random number
generation algorithms are.
So, as the item generation is depended on randomly generated numbers, what
then are depended on the time, item generation IS depended on the time too
via accumulation.

The only soulburner boss is Fleshdancer, set to appear on level 16. As
we all know, soulburners will never appear on level 16 so you will

it's all in this simple formula:
dlvl * 2 = chest ilvl
so, the only place where you can get an obs/zod from chests is level 15 (you
could get it on 16---if there were chests there :)
same thing goes for barrels.
also, the taunting (IMO) in the beginning of your post was uncalled for.

on the Bnet (it seems watching others with Dsight). Both jewels DID come
out of a chest. If you read Jafulfs guide you will also read that some
chests drop items with 2*dlvl instead of dlvl. That is what must have
happened. You really must be new to the forum and to the game.
