How can I enable this?
I've found this:

Command Line Parameters
-superhires Enables 1024x768 and 1280x1024 resolutions

But where is the command line for descent2 win95 version?

TIA

You would right click on the shortcut and add the -superhires after the
quotes on the target line like this

"path to .exe" -superhires

I dont think it works though.

you're right - it doesn't seem to work. I can't even get 800x600 to
work. I don't know what the deal is. 800x600 is selectable on the
resolution screen, it just doesn't stay selected. Maybe it's a win2k
thing - I'm going to install win 98 unless someone else has any ideas.
Thanks.

Make sure that the .PLR file isn't set as read-only.

You need to use Windows 98/ME compatability mode (available in XP.) If
that option is not available, you may have to do some hunting for the
equivalent of the Windows compatability toolkit.

I have winme, and when I right-click on the shortcut I don't get the menu
that says 'path to .exe'...

How would I enable superhires in win me?

I can get 800x600 but after running descent 3 in 1600x1200 it is very
blocky.

I am sorry i meant the line that looks something like this

Target "D:\DESCENT2\DESCENT2.EXE" -superhires

That should be like what you see when you right click on the shortcut and
select properties.

You may want to try d2x (http://icculus.org/d2x), which supports high
resolution modes by default.

I have another stupid question, because, uh, I'm stupid.

I have put the -superhires behind the path to .exe thing, and the .PLR file
is not read only, but when I start the game it has the option for 800x600 -
no apparent opportunity to select the higher resolutions.

Do I need to type in a command line or something after the game starts,
etc.? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well I installed D2x on my win2k system and it's way cool. I haven't
had much time to play with it, but I did notice that after installing
D2x I can now get 800x600 (still no superhires though) on the
commercial install of D2. On D2x, 1280x1024 works great, although
it does slow the framerate down to 35-40. Thanks to all for the help,
