I've never tried to play online/multiplayer games before DFLW. Never been
much of a capital-G Gamer, so I figured I'd get murdered easily. And yeah, I
did at first. =} --but getting better.

('Course, getting a cable modem helped a lot, too.)

1st observation is that it's WAY too much fun. I haven't gone back to the
campaigns on the disc since, and I keep neglecting a lot of other things
that need to get done. The cat gets pissed off at me, too.

2d is that some of the new maps out there on the public pages are excellent,
and a nice break from the cycle of castle/ruins/wide-open-wasteland maps on
Novaworld. (On the other hand, the Nova games that allow up to 32 players
are a blast. That night DM map is *total* chaos, but quite an adrenaline
rush. Problem is -- even if you can get logged on, it can take forever to
find an opening. Does no-logic have something against putting up more
games?)

Finally, it's nice to find that the majority of players are friendly people,
but you always get a few that just have to send nastygrams over the talk
line. I guess that's just life, but you have to wonder at the self-esteem
problems that result in taking a game too seriously........

Anyway, bottom line is that it's more fun than I imagined. Hope to see you
out there.

Who cares! We only fear the bunny here lately.

You'll find a tonathose here on the NG.

Got only a handful here on the NG.

Welcome, stranger! Gotta unique moniker other than just John?

Lipstick anyone?

Hi John, - WAY to much fun? Haha! I'm not complaining! As you say, mucho fun
and friendly people to play with makes a huge difference and you will find
plenty of them here and on some of the public pages. Welcome to DF County!

Howdy!
Getting a cable modem can hurt too, remember that you lag less for the enemy
too!

Glad you came on in to MP. We'll try to keep the cat jokes down......

Glad you like 'em! I know some of those map makers work very hard to try to
bring us quality stuff (not to mention any names there Gunny and the gang).
NOlogic does have something against putting up more servers. I understand
trying to keep the stat hosted base war & Flag games full. It wouldn't be to
fair if they were empty and a few people just ran flags all day (or blew
stuff up). We all take the game seriously! Otherwise I know a certain spouse
that would be much happier if I just didn't care about this game.

If DM is you flava, then good luck. You might want to try out some of the
team games bro. I never turned back myself. Also if you have a few spare
bucks you might also purchase DF1. It would give you something to play next
time NOlogic stops supporting LW. Many people still consider it a superior
game. Anyway if you get to like the Team games, try out one of the GD
servers. We always like to see some new blood, and the best way to learn the
game is to die from the very best. You'll learn very fast after you die for
about a week. You'll see if you stop by. Basically find yourself a server
that you like, and stick to it. Cause the NOlogic ones are just a bore and
are never up. Public is the way to go

"darkhop." I've been on there as "blackmore" and "Bob McSteve" at times, but
I've settled on my tired old usenet name.

And thanks for the welcome! (But I'll pass on the lipstick.)

I've done DM and Team DM and like both for different reasons, obviously. I
got on an A/D game once when nothing else would let me in and couldn't
figure out what was going on. =}

(I.e., the usual newbie trouble)

I've got all three DF's. This is just the first time I've tried the online
multi-thing.

Interesting -- so the online stuff is still available for the older
versions?

OK, but please educate the clueless here -- "GD servers"? Are those
different from the public games accessed from Novaworld?

Many times I've joined a public game, played a couple minutes and suddenly
found myself back at the world map screen. Is this typical? I thought it
might be due to a less than stable host. I've hosted a few and never had it
go down on me.

<GD> servers are on the public page. I think you are referring to the
LandWarrior infamous auto-punt. They think they have fixed it. Problem is,
when they fixed it they screwed up a lot of other stuff. Most are using
version .24 for LW, if you get punted, rejoin the same game, you should stay
the 2nd time round. How on earth could you play the other 2 games without
the MP? Geez they suck on SP!!

Hey John,

Item #1
Spend $14 and get Delta Force 1
Then have fun on the "<GD> World Servers" in the "Public" section! (No Saws)
Become a DF County HD/CR !!!!

Item #2
Stay away from DF2 unless you have a PIII-600 or better with a crapload of
ram.
<Dog holds nose>
You won't find <GD> servers in DF2.
Although I have had fun in DF2 with Hudson, Gunny, & Kiwi in the past.

Item # 3
In the "Public" aera for Land Warrior you will find a couple "<GD> World"
servers. One TKOTH and one TDM.
TDM is this dogs flava in any DF.

Welcome to DF County and I'll look forward to seeing yuo on the hill!
Whats your in-game nick?

Oh, those. Didn't know they were called GD. Does it mean General Domain or
something?

Well they kept me coming back for the next versions. May have had something
to do with the fact that they were fun but once you got the knack of them
you were done with the whole thing rather quickly.

And again, I've never found games all that addicting (except pinball in my
youth) so just didn't suspect that a) I'd do well in MP and b) it would be
worth the trouble. Wouldn't be the first time I guessed wrong.

That reminds me, why does (nearly) everyone hate the SAWs? I don't use 'em
cuz I like to have a scope attached, but I hear "damn saws!" a lot.

I have all 3 DFs and did indeed find 2 not as fun as the first.

Ah, OK. So they'll have <GD> on 'em. (I take a while, but I get there...)

Darkhop. (Don't ask; it's just an abbreviation of something a friend used to
