I've just started playing daggerfall and have encountered something rather
strange. Somehow I'm unable to grab items from treasurepiles, bodies etc.
(using grab/steal mode and the left mousebutton). Only one time I
succeeded. In the privateer's hold in the room with the rat. Since then I
haven't been able to grab anything.
Info mode only seems to be working for NPC's, can't view lying around items
though. Opening doors works fine, so does the conversation mode.
I'm using the large install (tried the huge, to no avail) patch 2.13.
This is quite annoying, since finishing the game without stealing form a
corpse or a treasurepile every once in a while seems to be quite difficult.
Is this a known bug? Is there a patch? Can anyone help me?
Thanx,
Pierre
First of all , make sure that you're clicking around the center of the "pile,"
and second of all (or at least this is what I have) is have it on dialogue
mode, but there should be no prob if you have grab mode. Just make sure you're
clicking around the center of the object.
Kill 'em all and let Arkay sort 'em out.
Have you tried crouching and leaning forward a little. Crouching would be the
"D" key. Leaning forward or backward is controlled by the insert and delete
keys.

The patch you're using is the latest and apparently the last patch.
Cool, cool

It takes some practice indeed. Move around a bit, forward, backward, move
your head a bit. Are you using cursor or view based interface? If view
based, press enter and click with the arrow on the body. Press enter again
to go back to view based. If this all doesn't work, please post again and
we'll try something else.

Info mode should say "you see a dead body" or "you see a treasure pile" or
something. Be sure that the item is in the middle of your screen.

This hasn't much to do with grabbing items, but we'll keep it in mind just
in case you encounter new problems :-)

Oh, it can easily be done, although the temptation woud be great to borrow
something from your victims.

The latest patch is 213, but you already have it. There is a newer version
of fixsave, available at http://members.aol.com/~marstinson/dagger or
http://home.sol.no/~melkor

If you're using the default view mode (forget what it's called) try crouching
next to the pile/body (using the d key) and then clicking on it. This usually
works for me, unless there's another creature attacking you, of course.
Well, it may be that the things you're trying to pick up from are simply
decoration. I found this when I first started. There are various bodies you
find (other than ones you've killed), and these are not real bodies, just
atmospheric items. You can't, AFAIK, do anything with them. Treasure piles
are different, if you see something looking like a pile of coins, or some
weapons, or a cooking pot etc, then these are treasure piles. What they look
like bears no relation to what they contain. You'll probably also have run
into the other part of the interface that confused me at first, which is how
to move stuff from the pile into your inventory, or the other way. The manual
doesn't explain this adequately either. The important point is that stuff on
the ground (or in your wagon when you get one) appears on the far right of
the pick up screen, whereas stuff in your inventory (other than what you're
wearing) appears in the next column in. To move stuff from one column to the
other, click on the REMOVE button, and then click on the item you want to
move. REMOVE is not what it offers you by default (it offers EQUIP, which is
rarely what you want, except perhaps at the very beginning). Now you can move
stuff from the ground into your inventory and vice versa. Later, when you get
a wagon, the column whch was the ground can toggle between being the ground
and your wagon contents. It toggles each time you press the wagon button.
