Question 1: How do you find "secret doors"? Is there any way to look
at the map and tell where they are?

Question 2: I have heard of the "Daggerfall Chronicles" hint book, but
I have been unable to locate a copy. Does anyone know where to find
this book, or is it even needed? The game appears to be very large
and I thought I would need all the help I could get.

BTW, great newsgroup. Thanks in advance.

Yes. Just look at the map. All doors are indicated, secret or not.

I think the hintbook is still available from Bethesda's website.
(www.bethsoft.com). In my opinion, most of the material in the Chronicles that
is of interest is available on the web. Mark Stinson's website or the FAQ are
two good places to start looking around. Both have links to other sites.

Not only that, but the info on the web is more credible than the
Chronicles. Bethesda screwed up royally by putting that together
before the game was even finished, so a lot of the info you'll find in
it is inaccurate.

ok let see secret doors just appear on your map, although READING the
map is hard by itself heh.

and consensus around here suggests the DF chronicles blows. the maps are
all wrong and it is incomplete, not to mention that most of the bugs and
explotations seen there are false.

if you need ANYTHING about DF just go to:

there are other sites also:

Yeah, you can see them on the map, if you are near enough to them. In a
room, a secret door appears as a blanck spot in the wall of the room -
you know, like regular doors look? If you look closely, you can see the
faint outline of the hidden door. In hallways, the map shows a tiny
brown extension sticking out from the wall ......

Is that the little green book that comes with it?? It's not much use,
but should have come with it, if that's the one I'm thinking of. I found
the Unauthorised Strategy Guide to be quite helpful - it's a larger
brown book.

People who have the Chronicles haven't rated it very highly. I got the
Prima book when I first started which gave me a couple of hints but that's
all. The best info I ever found came from websites: Mark Stinson's and
the UESP in particular. In addition I've tried to add what I consider
useful beginner info onto my own site.

Check out the sites and if you still have more questions the friendly folks

There are umpteen cheat sites with articles on Daggerfall, but I do have
a complete walk thru. Not mine, but I've used it to get right through
the game. If anyone wants it, and a few hint files I've accumulated I'll
gladly attach them to an Email ??

Burn it! Burn the lich! (sorry, I just had to do that)

You need a resist shock spell or something that contains the spell. Of
course you could just run away. Or you could do what I do. Reload over and
over again until you get lucky. At lower levels I tried to get into a
position where I could shoot it. I killed quite a few by shooting arrows
through doors. For my character, the ancient lich is the toughest creature.
I can beat daedras more easily.

Well some how the initial pain in my ass lich killed it's self. so I
slaughter a bunch of mages and becuase my ebony dagger broke I used a silver
longsword to no avail.
Now that I know I can fill him full of arrows...

Never found Ancient Liches to be that hard for my characters. Maybe I've
just been lucky. Only time I was killed my an AL was in that random dungeon
room where all those doors open up and 6 or so monsters of the same type
come in from all sides.
I tend to find that Vampire Ancients are the hardest adversary.

Somehow I find it misplaced that this is associated with ancients.
