hi everyone.

my copy of DAGGERFALL came in the mail the other day, from a buy at
www.gametz.com. [ i went there right now, i see that there are about
20 daggerfalls for trade or sale...get it now, here!!]

so there it sits. behind the UNREAL GOLD that i am playing now. and
GOTHIC is installed and i found that i can even PLAY it even with my
333 pentium, the character moves and the camera pans without much
slowdown or stutterings!
maybe even mabe i can try the big "M" some day!

daggerfall. i read that there are some very very strange things in
this game!
---naked women
---the telephone booth from the "dr who" series, it materializes in
the southern desert, complete with dr who sound effects and then it
vanishes!!
---dragons.
----hidden dungeon near the ship.

has anyone here seen these?!

QUESTION.....how many quests are there in daggerfall, not including
the Main Quests or of any add-ons mods?!

Question...i read over and over "just how boring all the towns and
places are"!
i played daggerfall once and i stopped after a bit of time, so i do
not know...i have the feeling that if i went to other provinces i
might find some strange things!
i wonder if the other odd 100+ quests are Interesting enough for me to
re-try daggerfall??

You can summon daedra and meet the daedra lord that looks like a dragon.
There is a hidden quest witch lets u meet a dragon, I havent found it
though..
same for the telephone booth.

I think daggerfall is a lot of fun, one of the reasons is the exelent
magic system (even better than BaldursGate series) and since Morrowind
hasnt been released yet in sweden its a good "wait" game.

oh btw is morrowind any "simular" (heh) to daggerfall? (X grapics, sound,
and AI)

Just for your information, Morrowind is to be released maj 31 here in Sweden. At least according to some online shops.

ok men se upp han har lite skruvade öppet tider, han öppnar kl 14:00 tror jag, men han har ett (ganska) bra utbud speciellt
av äldre spel.

Tardis? AFAIK there are no Dr Who sound effects in the
Daggerfall sound library. I've only listened to about 2/3s
of them though. Time lords would certainly be an
anachronism ;-) Role-playing Dr Who in Tamriel should work
though.

>---dragons.
Oui.

>----hidden dungeon near the ship.

The end-game dungeon, the Mantellan Crux, is physically located in
same region where the boats are. You can enter it ad hoc, but
probably need the teleport spell to exit.

About 200 without the main quest. There are 29 quests in the main
story, with all 7 subplots. Not all of them are actually solicited
by the PC; some happen consequentially or silently.

Damn! All roads look the same. Guess I'll stay home ;-)

The towns mirror their distinct geographies: woodlands, mountains
swamps, and desert. Each area has its own particular seasons.
The southwest is vaguely Persian-Pueblo. The eastern mountains
have striking interiors for the shops and guilds; Daggerfall _is_
bland by comparison.

>i wonder if the other odd 100+ quests are Interesting enough for me to
>re-try daggerfall??

It depends:

o Investigate a prophet's claim of divine sight
o Investigate a claim of demonic possession
o Help a `merchant' smuggle goods
o Prevent the assassination of a noble
o Rescue an abducted noblewoman
o Become a giant slayer
o Collect ingredients for a witch's brew
o Return an abducted child
o Assassinate an ancient vampire harrassing a coven
o Rescue a missing archeologist
o Find a priest out on a drinking binge
o Duel a townie over a misunderstanding
o Play `Dear Abby'
o The curse of 1001 nights
o Rescue a lost pet tiger
o Help a merchant with a corrupt business partner
o Punish a dragonslayer
o The 16 artifact quests
etc

The royalty have the largest number (29) of side-quests, but
most social groups have at least a dozen or so (Knights, Fighters,
Thieves, Assassins, Commoners, Merchants, Mages, Temples)
Some quests are offered only to members of a particular
guild; others are available to all comers. For example,
each temple has a quest specific to its Order.

If you want a mission-oriented structure, really there's
only the main story. Everything else is improvisation.

My characters tend to noodle around, building up repute with
various factions by poking about in odd corners, chatting
with townies for odd jobs, and the like.

My latest, Gwahla, the Queen of Perpetual Youth, is limited
to level 1--she will never advance to level 2. Yet she's
so well-respected by the Order of the Scarab they're about
to award her a town house for all the hard work she's done
on their behalf. She also runs search-and-rescue missions
for the temple of Stendarr. She's been tooling around the
southlands, from the Dragontail mountains east to the
Wrothgarian mountains for about one and a half game years
now. She's visited about 120 different places so far--
typical for me. Of course, she'll never be offered the
main quest--level 3 is the minimum requirement before
Princess Morgiah will notice the PC.

If free-form isn't for you, you could always take on
the main story as a Were-thing or Vampire.

Don--If you harrass me, I'll probably include it in a quest.

A poster mentioned it here awhile back, `99 or `00.

You have to pick primary, secondary, and minor skills which the
PC will *never* use. Gwahla is warrior-ish, and so uses no magic
craft:

Primary skills
Archery 33 Alteration 33 Destruction 32

Major skills
Dragon 22 Daedric 22 Illusion 22

Minor skills
Mysticism 17 Pickpocket 17 Restoration 17
Thaumaturgy 17 Street 16 Hand-to-hand 17

Starting stats
Base strength 50 Base intelligence 30
Base will 30 Base agility 65
Base endurance 65 Base personality 35
Base speed 65 Base luck 60

The miscellaneous skills she has actively used:

BackStab 55 Blunt 85 Climb 51
Critical Hit 85 Dodging 34 Jump 57
LockPick 37 Long Blade 74 Merchant 65
Running 57 Short Blade 70 Swim 51

It turns out, she's overly buff for the most part. Once she
trained up to 50, she was pretty much unstoppable. She's
even managed to put down an Ancient Vamp, though it wasn't
a fair contest. (The fool managed to lock himself in a cage
with his hostage, and she'd just found a long shirt of Far
Silence. Pfui)

She's had to give up carousing after the drunken priests,
as she can't tap them without insta-kill. She took Forbid
Hand-to-hand, but thumping them with her fists knocks them
out and draws blood anyhow. So she's afraid of gaining a
skill increase.
