The genome of the norns that come with the game is flawed. You need to go to
the Creatures website (you should have a link on your start menu). First, make
sure you have the latest executable (1.038) by opening the game, clicking on
the help menu and selecting "About". If your version is not the latest, you
need to download the executable file (it's located under "free stuff"). You
also need the updated eggs (don't confuse this with the updated hatchery -
that's different, though you can pick it up while you're there if you like)
and object injector, also found on that page.

After installing the executable, install the eggs and object injector.
Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about the norns you already have,
but the next egg you hatch from the hatchery should produce a more robust norn.

First, welcome to a.g.c! Second, get the genome update from the Free Stuff
section at www.creatures2.com. Well, I hope that that helps! :o)

Nothing, unfortunately. And every time a new person arrives here with
this frustration, I get angry at Cyberlife all over again! If they
would only answer on this newsgroup, some of these people, if they
would only appologise publicly for the mess they made of C2, I, for
one would begin to feel some renewed respect for them. </rant>

As far as those norns are concerned, you may as well export them then
delete their files. personally I wouldn't bother with the egg update
from Cyberlife either. The best norn genome, in my opinion, is made by
Chris Double and Lis Morris. They can be found at The Palace of the
Evil Shee:
http://www.shee.demon.co.uk

Look for the Akamai norns. While you're at it have a look around
there. It's a fascinating website and she has many exciting norn-types
(with sprite images made by Wafuru) and interesting COBs. :`)

BTW, welcome to the Creatures Community. :`)

Well , I think xOtix has told you more or less everything you must
know. Check out Cyberlife's site anyway at www.creatures2.com to get
the latest version of C2's .exe file and some free goodies.

They're not so bad - they seem to do okay with eating, but even with JayD's
updates, I have trouble getting the adults to finish their sleep cycle.

What really annoys me is that the help file is so bad. It tells you, "make
sure you teach your norn to eat", but doesn't tell you how to do that. When my
first norns died, I thought I was doing it wrong. I gave up on the game for a
while, and finally came across the NG, lurked and learned.

We had a thread, I think just before you returned, in which many of us shared
our traumatic first C2 norn stories. I think many of us were scarred for
life<g>.

<mode=cynical> That was so you would purchase one of useless books
that Toby writes. I didn't bother with the book for C2. I'm still
angry that the Chapters they showed on the web were in _colour_, and
the book, when I bought it was a cheap thrown-together in
_black-and-white_. I wanted colour pictures so I could tell the
difference between the poisonous and non-poisonous plants. Grr...

Remember the name of it? I might look that up... ;`)
It sure scarred me. Because I was in the late/early adoption program,
I felt an obligation to continue and report. I may have made copies of
some of my reports before I sent them. There was not a single word of
acknowledgement from CL and affiliates about the pain and trauma they
caused us. I still feel a lot of bitterness about the way CL ignores
this aspect of their "game".

Most clowns scare the daylights out of me. My own clown, Kaliope, is
really shy and sweet, though --and terrified of children. LOL!

Yes; and it might be that it was worse for people who were used to C1,
because the methods which had always worked for them there didn't work
in C2.

> When my first norns died, I thought I was doing it wrong. I gave up

And this is one of my "hobby-horses" as CL well know; not all C2-players
have or want access to the net, and those people will never even try the
game again -- or probably any other CL game -- after such a painful
experience. It's better to take the time to get it right on the release
disc, or at least to make sure that there is an "oops, we messed-up"
freebie sent to registered users.

> --I can't sleep...the clowns will get me--

<giggle> excuse _me_, are you referring to NG people <petulant flounce>
or to CL? <g,d&r>

Cheers

It was very silly of CL to release that book so soon after the American
release of C2; this added to the NG bitterness at the time, because they
were posting in here then and their defence regarding the manual had to
do with lack of time.

Ah, that's a shame. I never got the books, but would have been
similarly miffed after seeing examples in colour on their site.

Yes, that EAP was a strange thing; didn't people only get it after (or
at about the same time as) the game was released in America? I never
did understand what the purpose of that was, since they were hardly
likely to change anything at that stage.

LOL! Poor soul...
