i thought russian was based on greek, in a funny kind of way.... the alphabet,
at least. am i wrong? spaseeba! :)

Mostly Greek and Hebrew and Glagolitic. The Ciryllic alphabet was
invented by St. Cyril to give written language (and a version of the
Bible) to the slavs. He and his brother St. Methodius created several
writing systems for ilterate peoples to aid their missionary work.
Probably more than you want to know about it though.

i knew that st. cyril or some such personage invented the written language....
that was about it though.......
