Well Ping,

My husband is one of those geeks, and if he is any example, I would have
to say that being a geek is pretty great. :) I love him just the way
he is and wouldn't change him for anything.

Vicki

Looks good, my young namesake. A couple of suggestions:
1) You might want to wrap it a little short of 73 columns, perhaps
at the places I've wrapped it above.
2) the Computer code must be capitol C, not lowercase c. That would
make it "C+(++)>$"
3) I don't quite understand your Unix/Linux intentions. "UL++++@>"
says that you have your own Linux box (basically ;-) but that you
would like to have an account . . . on another system?
4) Dilbert is at http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/dilbert/
Go, join the DNRC. Fulfill your destiny!

Hi Ping,

Take a quick side trip to my web page for further info. In short, the
geek code is intended to cover every aspect of life common to geeks.
That includes certain TV shows, certain computer games, even sex.
Check it out.

The code covers these topics:

Appearance :
How you dress, your height and roundness, and your age

Computers : (naturally the longest topic)
General computer ability, and knowledge of specific subjects
including Unix, Perl, Linux, Emacs, the web, newsgroups, the
Internet Oracle, Kibo, Windows, OS/2, Macintosh and VMS

Politics :
Your social and economic stance, also e-privacy and PGP

Entertainment:
Your take on Star Trek, Babylon 5, the X-Files, role-playing games,
general TV usage, book reading, Dilbert, Doom and the Geek Code

Lifestyle :
Your level of education, your housing, relationships and sex.

There's room within the code to express yourself:

@ indicates wild variance in that topic
() is used to give a range
> shows what you would like to be
$ indicates that you're making money in that area
? denotes lack of knowledge and
! says that you avoid a particular topic

And you can leave out topics if you wish.

At the moment, you can only put in Geeky things. Who knows what
subsequent versions will bring. Or, someone could MODIFY it, so it
includes whatever you want.. Of course, then it would no longer be a
geek code.. :)

There's a decoder at http://hci.ise.vt.edu/~jreiss/geek/ungeek.html
and you can visit my web page for two more related links. In practice,
though, it's not too difficult to remember what each term means. I've
reviewed mine a couple of times, and I'm starting to recognize the
terms, especially when I can remember the sequence in which they come.

Guess I'd better upgrade my G term, eh?

I'm working on the C-ADD code (Creatures Addicts) I will try to have
version One out by the end of the week. I'm waiting for approval from
the makers of the Geek Code (As I used the same Variable denoters as them)
And also nicked the idea <grin>

Still, If anyone has any suggestions for the code, then e-mail me.

Oh, New quote (from Daljit)

EVERYONE should have this program.

I didn't know you cared... (Oh and I'm looking into the GeneMapper problems)

I would think that an item for making a modification to the geek code should
be part of the code! Maybe something along the lines of:
CM (for code modification)
CM+ added something geeky to own code
CM++ added something geeky that someone understood
CM+++ added something geeky that someone else thought was cool and added to
their code.
CM++++ added something geeky that was then added to the "standard" Geek
Code.
CM - can't come up with something geeky enough to add

(geek code pending when I have time...honest!)
