Well it looks like our old friend Xoom has deleted the Creatures Graphic
Resource account. Which means I`ve lost all the images that I had in the
/cgrimages/ directory. A bunch of Monkeys with a PC could provide better
webhosting than Xoom. They haven`t even given me an explanation of why they
deleted the account. <sigh> well, if anyone knows another GOOD unlimited
bandwidth server, with a decent amount of space let me know, ok?

I'd like something that isn't GeoCities (stupid watermark, stupid
"transitional" ads, stupid popups, stupid javascript code that stalls
Netscape 3), doesn't have popups (Tripod), and isn't incredibly slow.
I have 3 accounts, but could really use more room, with all of the
webpages I maintain.

Can I just mention at this point that Xoom, who so unjustly banned me, still
send me spam entitled 'Dear xoom member'?

Actually, you _did_ approve it as part of signing up with them. It's in the
ToS and other membership info. They send you offers (and you delete them
unread, like I do...), you get free space and only have to give them one teeny
tiny link on your main page. Take a look. I'm seriously looking around for a
backup - does anyone know if every Tripod page has a popup attached, or just
your main (index.html, I assume) one?

What with Xoom basically harrassing you and Lis,
perhaps all the various readers of the NG ought to
send them a polite e-mail, each, asking why it
looks like Xoom is targeting Creatures webpages
in particular. ;^)

Perhaps something along the lines of:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a regular reader of the alt.games.creatures
newsgroup. It has come to my attention that Xoom
has recently closed down several websites relating
to the game, Creatures. To my knowledge, these
sites were completely above board, and no
satisfactory explanation was offered to the owners
of these sites for the closure. I hope that Xoom will
at least offer the owners of these sites an explanation
for their actions, or better still, reinstate the websites in
question.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

hehehee... let's start cc:ing xoom on all the messages in this thread
and any other thread that rants about them. I'm definately not moving my

I'll just have to rough it out with Crosswinds. Crosswinds is kinda slow
but they are the only service provider I know that gives you unlimited
webspace and doesn't require plastering your site with stupid javascript
messages and trailing icons...

I'll E-mail them tonight - my grendels website is partially on Xoom (hey, I
moved there back in July, when I was fleeing the increasingly-annoying
GeoCities). I set up a forwarding URL (see below) for it, and I'll move it
wherever I have to go in order to avoid such bull. I signed up with Tripod
today, so we'll see how they look (hopefully that popup only happens on the
main page, as Tripod claimed), and maybe I'll be Xoom-free by tonight or so.

I actually tried this approach... and for my trouble, I get a letter
entitled, 'Dear Xoom Member...' I was, like, 'Um... I dislike you guys... I
most certainly not a member...' and then it went on to say that the letter
would answer any questions I had. I just KNOW I'm not suprising anyone when
i say that the letter was as useful as a screen on a submarine and contained
about as much wisdom and knowledge as a 'get rich quick' pamphlet might. :P

Well, if you wrote the "mem...@xoom.com" address, I'm not surprised
you got a "Dear Xoom Member" letter back. ;) I'm a member (for now),
but I E-mailed "webm...@xoom.com" - I figured if that's where you
_report_ violations, you might also question them there as well. That
was yesterday afternoon, and I at least haven't received a canned
response yet, so we'll see.

I sent my complaint to webm...@xoom.com yesterday afternoon, since that's the
one that handles the complaints about content. I mentioned that I was a
member, and pointed out my Creatures page on their server at
<http://members.xoom.com/dvoskuil/grendel.html>. (*checks* Nope, still
there.) I pointed out that Cyberlife knows about TN, actively encourages the
swapping of norns and COBs (or as I put it, "creatures and freebie add-ons") on
the Internet, and provide links to hundreds of fan sites on their own web site.
I don't know if that'll do any good, but at least I haven't received a bot
