Cheating in Command & Conquer's Zero Hour is much the same as in C&C
Generals. In Generals you could rip INI files out of INI.BIG and modify
costs, build time, armor, weapons and etc.

With Zero Hour the ".BIG" file is called "INIFX.BIG." Using a progarm
called XUCR you can rip the individual INI files out of INIFX.BIG and then
modify them with NotePad. Modifying the size of these ripped ini files does
not seem to be a problem. These ripped INI files must be placed in a
subdirectory called "Object" as in this example:

C:\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\Data\INI\Object

XUCR will present a slew of INI files within INIFX.BIG, each pertaining to
specific elements of the game. For example to modify the basic American
Vehicles rip the INI called "AmericanVehicle.INI."

You can obtain XUCR here:

http://xccu.sourceforge.net/utilities/XUCR.zip

You can also, just modify INIFX.BIG with a hex editor, but you can't change
the overall size of INIFX.BIG. However, INIFX.BIG is huge and a nightmare
to edit. And, keep in mind there is a second copy of INIFX.BiG created at
some point in the subdirectory "INI."

Have Fun!

Martin:

I have no idea if this will work while playing online. But, my guess is the
server version of INIFX.BIG is the one that is used. I've never played any
game online, nor do I intend to.

No, the game detects that you are using a different INI file as your opponent
and will either terminate the game in a mismatch or prevent you from starting
the game in the first place. This has been true of all C&C games.

(Sorry for the top posting but I cannot really snip it without losing the
sense.)

I personally don't play any C&C games online because in my experience
absolutely everybody else cheats (present company excluded because I have
never knowingly played any of you). I have better things to do with my spare
time than offer myself up up as cannon fodder to some saddo who can only get
his kicks by cheating. I bet they get their connubial kicks on-line too,
typing one-handed ... Over time, the AIs in C&C games have become sufficient
to give me a good enough game on a level footing without having to worry
about whether the other guy is cheating. All that does is heighten the sense
of paranoia.

These days I prefer Medal of Honor and am a member of a clan dedicated to
the end of cheating. But it's a lo-o-ong hard road, and it's refreshing (but
rare) when we find another clan with similar aspirations. It's worth it when
we do though, as they turn out to be really decent people too.

To quote TCIPollina (off the top of my head):

Fight, Win, Prevail
But never cheat.

Fine by me.

Thanks to JKay for his original info on XCC. But which ini files
containing, for example, 'Buildtime' need to change before it becomes
effective? I've extracted and changed all of the America ini files
with this one alteration - and nothing. More interestingly, I removed
all the extracted ini files AND the INIZH.big from all sight of the
INI folder and the thing carries on playing normally. Go slow here
with the flames. I'm just interested in learning how to do it and if
it will work.

Yeah, I don't play online either. I've got a slow connection, plus there's
the cheating issue.

Indeed. In Zero Hour, you're also allowed to play stats matches on *official
maps only* (no easy-win maps anymore).

Well... actually, I don't play online either. I've never played any strategy
game online. I think there's a pretty good chance that you end up playing
with an idiot that quits after 7 mins, cheats or whatever. I only play
strategy games with my friends, because I know that they aren't idiots and
that they will play seriously without cheating and finish the game.

Also, my firewall doesn't work with CCG.

The one thing that comes to mind is........ did you place the ripped INI
files in appropriate directory. Some should be in the INI directory and some
should be in the OBJECT directory below INI. I rip the files to a temp
directory and this places the INI files in the appropriate subdirectory.....
then I just move them after I have modified them to correct directory in the
game. I've had good luck reducing the price and build times using this
method.

Sorted. It was to do with the placement of the ini files (and deleting
that .big file lurking in the root directory. Nevertheless, it does
mean having separate ini's for each of the campaigns. Cheers for the
replies!

Right! Once you change sides all your cheats start working against you.
Glad to hear you got it working.
