Flamethrowers, how to use them?

I've played NOD extensively in Campaign mode and I have seen many
people talking about how cool they think flame guys and tanks are, but
I just can't see the attraction. Flamethrower guys seem hard to use
because
A) They're short range, by the time they get close enuff to minigunners
to toast them they're all gone!
B) They blow up! And take a bunch of other guys with them!
Granted that they're good anti infantry but I can never seem to use
them effectively. Ditto flame tanks for the same reason. WHY ARE THEY
GOOD?! HOW DO I USE THEM?!

Flame tanks are by far better than the troops for the reasons you
mentioned above. I find a couple of flame tanks nearby is rather handy,
since they kill off troops far quicker than other types of tanks. Flame
tanks are best used in small groups (1 or 2, but rarely more) since they
can do damage to each other. I have taken out approx 50 minigun infantry
with 2 flame tanks before, so I would say that they are quite useful :)

In my experience, flame troops and vehicles, combined with some
anti-armor troops and vehicles, make a deadly combination. The idea is
that if a flame tank and medium tank are paired up, maybe with some
bazooka dudes, they can handle just about any threat. They make a neat
little defensive package to put at chokepoints. True, flame troops
require more thought to manage because they are pretty damn
indiscriminate, but hey, they also can kill a whole lotta infantry. In
short, they're worth it.

Well I have to agree there.

The flame guys however can perform pretty good when you sort of post
them not too close to each other AWAY from your own troops.

Once the enemy breaks trhough your friends will be toast surely.

So set up a line of flame guys.
Behind them a couple of bazooka fellas and you'll have a nice
defence line.

If you want to attack with flame throwers than it is indeed hard since
they clogg together and kill themselves.

So just before reaching the enemy push the X - button.

good luck

Well, it seems obvious you havn't learned the credo "In Diversity I shal
Survive". You need to learn to mix your troops up. Each unit has an
advantage over another while at the same time another unit will have an
advantage over yours. NEVER send in a batallion of all the same type.
Send in flame throwers in the middle. Grenaders near the front. Cheap &
expendable miniguners at the front. Bazooka men in the rear. The
minigunners take the bront of the fire. Grenedeers can take out many of
the short range targets while the Bazookas take out air and long range
ground threats. Once you are close in, break up the group and use the
toasters for clean up. As you have found out, flamethrowers blow up. Use
them like kamakazis. Send them right into the middle of an enemy
batallion(cover fire as needed). When those enemy kill him, the explosion
will take out many of them too. Real bitch to defend against. Shoot him
and get tosted, don't shoot him, get tosted. Run? He will outrun your
bazooka men and minigunners and keep up with your grenedeers. Every time
you stop to throw, he will sqeeze off some fire also and he has more HP
than your greneder. Flame throwers also have a higher HP than Bazooka men,
move faster and cost $100 less.

Same with flame tanks. They need protection from heavy hitters. Send in
mammoths or mediums and use the flames to keep the infantry away from the
mammoths while they take out the heavy hitters or your intended target.
Then use the flames to do the clean up. Flames are lousy against armoured
vehicles (most vehicles in fact) but are fantastic for human targets.

Another strategy is flame crossfire. Set up a couple flame tanks on each
side of your base enterance facing each other but far enough away not to
toast each other. Any human unit (engineers especially) havn't a
snowball's chance in hell of getting through that oven. Using 4 flames
that way will send a computer controlled medium into confusion hell. It
will usually just sit and spin until it's paint blisters! They are also
great for protection of adv. guard towers or turrets.

Are they my favorites? Nope but they are usefull if used properly. Just
like bazooka men arn't worth a shit for some things but are great for
taking out armour or air targets but a small group of minigunners can take
out a dozen or more bazookas. Would I send bazookas against minigunners?
No, flamers or grenedeers. Would I send Flamers against armour hell no,
Bazookas have the upper hand.

Ok, to effectively use flame infantry, you have to remember to space
them at least 2 or 3 spaces away. (so if they do go, they won't take
anyone with him)

The flame tanks are good for taking out buildings like guard towers
(both) and other defense buildings.

eeek! You obviously know something I don't. I don't have the dexterity to
induhvidually controll my flame troops, I don't think anything but the
computer does. I keep them well away from my other troops. hmmm, maybe im
too busy moving all my tanks around...

I also like to use them as backup for your gun turrets. Makes the entrance to
your base pretty much inpenatrable.

Post a few around your base, anybody who decides to throw in a pack of
infantry is gonna get wiped out, along with an obelisk for the heavy
weapons :)

Place one every two squares along in front of your infantry ranks. With
the right protection, they serve as effective 'guard towers'.
