I started DC universe online (FREEmium MMO) I had heard it was like Marvel (which is now also gone) which is like diablo with marvel characters, but no, it's more regular. I'd also seen it's rating wasn't terribly good and had never tried it but I was desperate.

It reminds me in some ways of CoX, and I've been pleasantly surprised so far. You make your own character, not play one of the DC ones, design your look, and choose from some combination of super powers and weapon. I made look alikes of some of my old heroes & villains.

It's certainly far closer to CoX than Champions Online, which I had tried last year and been irritated with the cartoony-ness and the constant bombardment of in-your face reasons to microtranact.

I occasionally check in on the CoX clones, but nothing is terribly far along even though it's been what 6 years? Ship of Heroes looks most promising at the moment.
