Is there a time limit for rescuing Vi Dominae? Or does Wizardry Gold not
work properly on the latest computers?

I picked up a cheap copy of Wizardry Gold a little while back. Spent a few
hours smashing up the Ukpr store making invincible faerie ninjas. Sauntered
back to New City, entered the Forbidden Zone.
a) The comm link doesn't appear to work. I can't get the "@" character! It
always comes out as "'@"
b) No trace of Vi Dominae.

I feel ashamed at being stuck at such an old game but I need release!

Cheers.

My handwritten / coloured maps and notes for W7 are not as accessible as
http://www.iosphere.net/~eric/wizardry/
So instead of answering specific questions, I'm sure you'll get something
useful here.

I didn't actually even understand question a). What else would you want "@"
to come out as??
(Oh - aha - the character you meant to type but it typed an "@" instead?? -
you have a UK US keyboard layout problem ?- try "#" or Alt plus the ASCII
code http://www.ascii.cl/ I dunno).
Lol

Oh no it doesn't - you just said "When I type @ it comes out as two
characters '@".
Not
"When I type @@ it comes out as two characters '@@."

ergo it doesn't always do this, guess - just when you are playing W7.
Using some sort of emulation software to run this golden oldie? Try a
different one?
Lol

Nope. Playing it on a full speed P4 running Windows XP SP2 - the game works
fine like this.. Pressing the @ button always brings up '@. Tried running
MoSlo for a laugh and it made no difference Lol.

Oh - I thought you were reporting a keyboard bounce double @@, but actually
the other character is ' (single quote).

On my keyboard that is an unshifted @, so if you get that all the time even
in Windows, it is not a Wizardry brelated problem.

Perhaps you need check <Control Panel> - <Keyboard> and also <Regional and
Language> for any strange unintended settings?
Then turn your KB over and give it a sharp whack to dislodge bits of
digestive biscuit or whatever?

There is nothing wrong with the keyboard or regional language settings.
It's obviously something to do with Wizardry Gold. Perhaps something to do
with Service Pack 2?

can you Alt-Tab out from W7 to Accessories - System Tools - Character Map to
select the @, then Alt-Tab back and paste it in?

Lol

Nope, can't paste on this interface. Anyway, I gave away the game lol! I
just wanted to wander through an old game quickly and it was taking up far
too much of my life. I just uninstalled it for the last time. Take that Vi
Dominae, whereever you are!!

I like Wizardry 8 for a hassle free quick retro blast. No problems at all
with it, and always lots to do.
Lol
