carmageddon cheats don't work

Hi. I've got the "sold out" distro of carmageddon tdr 2000 and the cheats
don't work.
I hit the ` key then type herecomestrubble as specified and all I get is
"unknown command" changing the time limit flag in the options.txt (I think)
has no effect wither and no trainer seems to work.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Try the ~ key (tilde key)

UNLOCK THE CHEAT MODE
To unlock the cheat mode, press ~ then type:
hereComesTrouble
You can now enter the cheat codes below by pressing ~ and entering the
code you desire..

Invincibility .... invincible

Thanks but the problem isn't getting into the consol, it's when i'm in the
console the cheat commands don't work. Even the timer setting in the config
file doesn't do anything.

Hi, I've got your game, and I play it on my Vista system using the 'capability' option for Windows 95.
Once I have started the game, or when the logo for the start of the game comes up, I press the ` (tilde key) on my keyboard - at the beginning, farthest left of the numbers row. This brings up a screen, allowing you type in the cheats.
First you have to type in: hereComesTrouble and press 'enter'. This sets up the cheats.
Then, type in: addPowerUp Timer frozen! and press the 'enter' key.
Be careful about case sensitive and spaces when keying in the cheat. Now press ` (the tilde key) and it will return to the game. You should find, that the numbers where time ticked down have been replaced by dashes, and there is no longer a time limit.
