No seriously, couldn't you have e-mail them to him or posted them on the
binaries group?

No, but you'll be advised to pull on your asbestos y-fronts if you start
posting shit like that.

It's a waste of bandwidth. One binary will take up the same amount of news
server
space as hundreds of text posts.

Besides, if the person who requested the files in the first place is using
Freeserve or a
similar ISP, he won't see them anyway.

posting binaries is a waste of time , there not allowed here , mainly due to
the size and the fact that many people wont see them as their ISP filters
them out of non binarie groups. Thats why we have a binaries group

The point? It makes a thread much easier to follow. You wouldn't
read a book from back to front. Nor would you follow a newsgroup

You see, this is how the conversation went:

Baggers to Jonno: "...you evil top poster."
Blue Dave to Baggers: "AAAAARRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! You're obsessed man!"
Baggers to Blue Dave: "You say that like it's a bad thing."
You to Baggers: "well done have a cookie for being so quick off the mark"

Now, Baggers is the one who harangues people for top-posting. Had you
been agreeing with him, as appears to be true, you've neatly shot
yourself in the foot. Had you been agreeing with Dave, who apparently
thinks that Baggers is being a little overzealous, you would have replied
to _him_ instead.

This doesn't even make sense if you were being sarcastic, because sarcasm
in your last statement depends on Baggers sincerely thinking that his
zealotry is a bad thing. In a word: No.

Now, has it become inconvenient to follow this conversation yet? Up and
down and up and down and up and down...

That is why you shouldn't top post.

Thank you for your time.

Pros for top posting
Top posting means that people see what you have said without scrowling to
the bottom.

Cons against top posting
There is no reference to what you were talking about. It you are going to
top post, then you might as well snip the rest of the conversation off.
It is bad manners in a group where the general ettiquette

Bottom posting, as some people put it, is actually only slightly less
annoying than top posting. They way that it should be done is to post your
reply under each relivent comment

Pros for "bottom posting"
You can place a reply right under each point or comment made.
People do not have to scroll all over the place to make a thread make sense.
Conversations are easier to follow
It is much easier to clip irrelivent points from a conversation.
It is easier for other people to read and follow the points made in a
conversation when they are not the principles.

Cons against bottom posting
When people mess up and do not clip irrelevent comments and just add things
to the end then it can look messy.
When .sigs are not removed and people post after them things can look a bit
silly.

But since this is officially a non-top posting newsgroup, I would say the
most important reason to not to post is to be polite.

See. By top posting that comment makes no sense without looking at other
posts are scrowling around much more than you normally would.

Reason why top posting is not good. (First in an infinate series)
Try to make some sense of your last post and the varous replies made before
it. It just doesn't work.

Polite? You think this NG is polite?
Being flamed for being a newbie, is that polite?

Some people prefer to read top-posts, some prefer bottom-posts. Personally I
couldn't give a flying fuck, it's not the end of the world! Jeez!

I'll rephrase that. Compaired to some other alt. groups, this newsgroup is
polite. We even started for an agcm meetup in real life a few months ago!
That might have been because people wanted to bring weopons though. :o)

Congratulations.

You've made it into my kill file.

Your total lack of understanding of usenet makes it impossible to follow a
fucking word
you're saying.

Your refusal to accept simple directions from people with good intentions
(albeit in some
cases "overzealous") makes you look like, to quote, a total fucknozzle.

Not many people make it into the kill filter - maybe one day, when you learn
to
post correctly, you may make it back out. However I'm not holding my
breath.

I am talking about other groups like.
alt.kickme
alt.binaries.kiddiefiddlers
alt.fluff

Now they are real hard core groups.

Makes conversation easier ? It may , if your as thick as pigshit and only
interested in 1 post threads . Try posting where the hell you like in the
middle of a 50 post discussion thread and watch as it becomes unreadable
simply because some fuckmuppet doesnt have a basic understanding of usenet

Do you read the Editor's replies to letters in magazines before
reading the letter? That is what you're causing everyone else to
do by top-posting.

Sarcasm in human speech is usually conveyed by variations in speaking
tone, facial expressions, and other visual cues. Due to Usenet being a
text-only medium, these are extremely difficult to convey, making sarcasm
a hit-or-miss proposition at best. It's best to make it obvious that
you're employing it. This was not.

You might _also_ note that I was trying to be civil. It makes very little
sense to insult those that are reasonably trying to correct you, while
contradicting yourself upthread by rightly pointing out that the insults
used by some others arguing with you here are both quite immature, and
mostly useless.

polite in person. Most netters are. Anonymity allows so many abuses.

Regardless, if civility is nothing more than "bull shit" to you, then you
shall have none. Be thankful for immature insults. They seem right up
your alley, and they'll be all you get, as the voices of reason lose
their patience, as I have.

Don't bother with the artfully composed insult to my mother which I'm
sure your fingers are itching to type as you read this. I won't see it.

yes, maybe so, but this is net ettiquette, everyone follows it, because
thats the way it is, so to be a top posting fucknut ruins it all.
the rules are there to keep order, dont make yourself look anymore stupid

...But top posting meens that you need to scroll to the bottom to see what
you are replying to, and then back up to the top. At least by posting below
the message that you are replying to, people can make sense of you message,
what you are replying to, and the messages before hand with out getting
arthritus of the hand or RSI.

Chewie wished to add his word to the people who say this this is a bottom
posting group. I think that would have been a very valid point, even though
he made it after a lot of trash that he should of clip first, but he can't
help it. He has a SB128 and they are the worst sound card ever invented. I
think we should have simpathy for people who have that card (Like Chewie and
me).

No. It exists. A few agcm members got into a newsgroup creation competion
around a year ago and one of the biggest ones that still exists is
alt.fluff.

/Baggers thinks well and hard.

I know that some newsgroups are officially top posters, but having looked
through a fair number of newsgroups over the past few years, and having read
their FAQs and the official newsgroup user rules and regulations, I know
that the majority of them are anti-topposting and ask people to post beneath
the comment that they are replying to. There are a few exceptions to this
rule, but they are few and far between (or sponsored by ms)

So far we have had the majority of this group come forward and say that they
prefer people posting below the relevant text. Would you please do so in
this newsgroup? Either that or you are calling everyone in this newsgroup
crap, in which case they would have a valid argument for ignoring you and
not paying any attention to the posts you make. This would make anything you
say irrelevant. Since I think that you might have something worth listening
to, can you please not top post from now on.

I apologise humbly. For some strange reason, I look to look at what has been
said before I get involved in an argument with people. I also have to look
through over 100 different conversations in several different newsgroups in
a regular basis. From now on I will try my best to only focus on the post
that you make <that was sarcasm by the way>

I am sorry, but this is not a top posting group. Look at the number of
people you have upset by insisting on top posting. It could be considered as
rude. I would have thought that you would be especially keen on people
quoting the thing they are complaining about before posting below it, or
are you just replying in an aggressive fashion to everyone who posts in a
way that is even the slightest bit negative of top posting?

If everyone blocks you, then what is the point of posting. If you want to
make a point that is worth listening to when I would suggest making it in a
format that people will listen to. If you look through the world then you
will see that there are many formats that people have to stick to otherwise
they will be ignored. If I want the current thesis that I am working on then
I have to do it to a set pattern. Anything less than what is asked for and
people will not pay any attention to what I say, even if it is
groundbreaking and the greatest things that has ever been said. If I want to
write a column in a newspaper then I have to follow the format said by the
editors. If I do not then he might do anything from re-write it to sack me
and I would have no grounds for complaint if I took it to an industrial
tribunal.
