it's a pretty good port, but you're limited to one country at a time,
so you can't job hop around europe as the game progresses.
obviously it's severely cut down from the PC (and even xbox360)
versions, as you'd expect, but it's still enjoyable enough.
if anything i'd say it sits somewhere inbetween cm2 and cm3 in terms
of complexity, with a few of the FM finishing touches thrown in.
cost me £14.99 back in Feb, so should be able to get it for a decent
price now.

there are a few good psp games, but not many.
i got my 2nd psp back in feb (got one back in may 2005 but sold it
about a year later due to not having turned it on for a good 3/4
months) and it is a powerful little machine, the problem is the
majority of the games are either lazy cut-down ports of PS2 games, or
cheap PS1 ports.
as i say, there are a few good games available for it, but there's a
lot of dross to sift through to find them.
what i'd ask is what would you want it for? the battery life isn't
great, even with a longer-life battery (which i think the slim model
comes with as standard) so it's not fantastic for heavy use on long
journeys, or for times when a mains socket isn't readily available.
on the other hand, if you put custom firmware onto it (which you can
do on the slim, iirc, but it's trickier than on the original model) it
turns it into a very robust piece of hardware, as you can run games
from the memory stick to save the battery (not that i'm advocating
running games you don't already own, of course!) and you can
convert/run pretty much any PSOne game on it, rather than being
restricted to the measly few sony have put up for purchase on their
website.
personally, i find it a handy little games machine.
it tries a bit too hard to be a jack of all trades, with music and
video and wifi internet capabilities, but all 3 of those functions are
somewhat limited in comparison to hardware dedicated to the task, so
it really has to come down to the games.
if i were you, i'd have a look around and see if there are enough
games available that appeal to you, and base your decision on that.
i paid around £70 for my one off ebay (the older model) but i don't
think i get enough use out of it to be able to have justified spending
£130 on a new Slim one, iyswim.

Cheers Chris. I was expecting that. Was thinking to use it mainly in
bed, when the gf's gone to sleep - as the laptop was fairly bright and
she'd moan about it. But I enjoy FM on the laptop so much, I'd probably
find it hard to downsize, so to speak.
What's the best portable games machine about then? Basically I've got
£200 to spend, but am using some of the money to buy some garden
furniture/BBQ for our new place which we move into next month.

well, as i say, the best one for you, is the one with the games you'd
play.
my DS gets a hell of a lot more play than my PSP, but again you need
to sift through a ton of crap games to find the gems.
if i had to give up one of the two right now, it would probably be the
PSP, not because it's a bad machine, but it just doesn't have the
'pick up and play' feel to it like the DS does, which if anything is
down to the loading times for some games, which can be bloody long on
some titles.
though, sadly, you can't get FM (or any other management sim for that
matter) on the DS.

Football manager 2009 handheld will have more leagues this year so maybe
best to wait for that.
