I dual classes my fighter (berserker) to a cleric, and when he reached level
7 or so, I was able to use my fighter abilities again. but after that, the
spell button went black, and I can't click it. I can still right-click onthe
quick spell buttons, but I prefer to cast spells the "normal" way.
Has anyone had this problem before? Is there a solution?

Thanks.

Bart

Do you have an edged weapon equipped by chance (sword, bow&arrows, axe,
etc)?

Try taking your armour off - I think you can only cast spells in anything up
to studded leathers, not with chain, plate etc.

I've had this problem when dualling to a mage. Apply the patch, it fixes
that bug.

Cleric spells aren't affected by wearing armor, for the simple
reason that clerics can wear armor.
I can even confirm that multi-classed druids (e.g. Jaheira) don't
have to abide by druidic restrictions on armor - normal druids can only
wear "natural" armor, i.e. leather (or studded). (Are they allowed to
wear ankheg plate mail as well?) However, Jaheira, being a multi-class
fighter-druid, can wear any armor as she's part fighter.

There is, however, one annoyance: Anyone multi-classed with a
cleric or druid can only use clerical or druidical weapons in BG1 -
Jaheira can't even *wield* a long sword, let alone use it. I would have
preferred it if they'd run this the way they run armor for mage-types -
i.e. you can't cast clerical spells while wielding a non-clerical
weapon, but can at least wield the weapon of your "other" class.
(By the way, is this annoying restriction still present for
dual-classes? Will a cleric who duals to a thief, and then gains levels
as a thief, and learns how to use the bow and arrow and the short sword,
suddenly find that they become unable to use these weapons when their
thief level overtakes their cleric level? Or will wielding these weapons
be permitted, or will it simply stop cleric spellcasting while wielding
a non-permitted weapon?)

Jonathan.

No. ANY dual-class combo with a Cleric as the first class will not even get
the chance to select a pointy weapon. If your thief was the first class, he
could pick bows, but would never be able to use them again after he duals.

It's a known bug, happened to me. Apparently the patch stops it from
happening, but if it has already happened and you patch the game (like
I did), it's a bit more mysterious. Didn't fix it at first, but then a
few days later it just started working. I have no idea why.

Cheers!
David...
