Hi there,

does anybody know if there is some kind of viewer or extractor
for the *.bif files used in BG?

This guy seemed to find a way to extract the boo sound from the .bif file.
I wrote him an email asking him how he did it, but maybe if we both pester
him we can figure out the answer. Of course we could go learn where to get
.bif editors the hard way, but I've spent a couple hours on the internet
trying to no avail... so I say we pick this guy's brain and reap the
rewards.

I personally want NPC sound/voice for my PC's in multiplayer games.

I don't know of any viewer or extractor available right now. I used a
home-brewed 30-line C program to pull out all the RIFF wav chunks contained
within one of the bif files. It turns out most of the sounds aren't in wav
file format and need to be converted. I just got lucky finding boo's sound
as one of the few wav files.

*None* of the resources in the NPCSound.bif file are straight wav files and
the aforementioned program is not sophisticated enough to extract those
sounds.

When I have time I intend to make a more fleshed-out browsing program and
will distribute it. Maybe this weekend.
