Ok I'm doing the castle De'Arnise (the one Nalia presents to you) Im in
the room with all the Golems and they are just kicking my ass. I managed to
get the last piece of the flail by hasting a charecter, grabbing the loot
and closing the golems in the room behind me. But I'd like to actually
defeat them so I can search the room fully.
Anybody have any luck beating these things and if so HOW??

You do NOT have to get all three parts of the flail to put it
together; only one is needed (it says just that in the item
description).
Why can't you get to the dungeon (er, cellar <g>) without killing the
golems? Are they running amok now?
I decided to come back to that one later after getting squashed by
those guys. There's a sweet bow in there that my archer is simply
drooling over.

Managed to clear out the first and third statues (each statue will wake
up two of the golems), but the second one just kicked my ass. The clay
golem and the iron golem -- ouch. I think I ONCE got them both to
"barely injured" before they killed me.
The middle one had a bow in it -- and by one of the prior responses it
sounds like its pretty good. :) That's ok though -- this is on my list
of places to go back to.
As for my strategy, the golems are resistant to magic, so use your
spells to enhance your party instead -- Bless, Haste, Chant, Stoneskin,
Blur, Mirror Image, Barkskin, etc, etc, etc... and for healing. I used
a LOT of healing and just beat the hell out of them in melee. The key,
if you haven't already figured it out, was to loot the statues one at a
time.

Greetings.
First of all, you don't have to fight the golems if all you take is the
mace head. That's right. Just look in the crypt and take nothing but
the mace head and they won't be upset.
However, if you're greedy like I am you can just fight the little golems
one at a time. The other golems will just stand there. I just hasted
minsc and let him kill them all one at a time. Then I had him take all
the items and run before the iron golem could hurt him too bad. The
iron golem can't make it through the door so you're safe at this point.
The items are not bad although I couldn't find a use for any of them.
They're definitely worth grabbing, though. You also get good experience
for killing the golems. I never could figure out an effective way of
killing the iron golem. He's almost as bad as the lich I ran into...
Anybody got a good strategy for taking out the iron golem?
Oh, and did anyone figure out what to do with the dog bones and the
kitchen stove? I figured you were supposed to cook something to attract
those dogs but I never figured it out...

You kill all 4 dogs, then take their meat (looks like some nice steaks),
cook the meat (need all four) at the stove to get the stew.
You use the stew to get by the umber hulks in the basement.
Give the stew to your thief, have them hide in shadows, go into the room
with the umber hulks.
Take the first door on the south, go to the end of the corridor and you'll
see the tunnel they originally came in through.
Go into the room and click on the blue tunnel.
You'll see a bunch of dog bones, put the stew in the area and leave the
room, don't forget to hide in shadows again!
In a few moments, the umber hulks will appear, go back out to the main room
and close both doors to this corridor and the umber hulks are safely out of
the way.
Your journal describes part of this bit since one of the servants told you
about how the umber hulks would do anything to get their food.
Took me a bit to figure out exactly what to do with the stew.

This is pretty much what I did. I just wanted to get the hell out of there.
I'm
having enough trouble with the friggin trolls. Gawd, how I hate those
trolls.
I've all three pieces of the flail, but I do not know how to put it
together. I've
been slowly making my way through the basement, but I'm getting my ass
kicked and have to do it slowly (and repeatedly; did I mention how much I
hate trolls?). And to make matters worse, the Umber Hulks hit me twice
and I'm dead. They move like they are on speed, cocaine and crystal meth.
They weren't this hard in IWD...
Christoph
My thief kept failing his hide in shadows. So we wound up fighting the dumb
things. The good thing is if you stand in the doorway instead of charging
into the room, only one or two of them will come at you at a time. I think
these umber hulks are MUCH harder than the ones in IWD. They seem to
inflict a lot more damage with each hit. Also, I tried to use skeletons and
summoned animals to block the doorway to keep my party members from getting
confused. This worked pretty well.
The funny thing is, after we killed all of the Umber Hulks, I still had my
thief put the stew in the room with the bones. And we got experience points
for that! So, not only did I get experience for the stew, I got the
experience points for killing the umber hulks as well (4000 each). Maybe
that's a bug, but I'm certainly not going to argue!
As far as those golems go, they kept kicking my party's butt, so I left,
figuring I'd return at a later time. Anyone know if it's possible to go
back there at a later date, or does it have to be done at the time of the
keep quest? And if you shut the door, does it keep the smaller golems
inside as well or just the big one?

I did the golem room after finishing off the basement. I saved just out
side the room and sent my thief in to do a quick look at each of the three
statues to see what was in them (I had previously gotten the 3rd part of the
flail).
I put the rest of my party out in the hall and had Minsc stand by the
bedroom door ready to close it. I hastened my thief and had him take the
contents of from the statues and run for the corridor.
Tried a couple of times to take the contents of more than one statue but the
at least one of the golems would run to where I was running to (where the
blinking cursor was located) not towards me. Couldn't get out to the hall
this way so settleled for the +3 bow and got out just in time to have Minsc
slam the door in the golems face.
Considering I now own the Keep, I wonder who I should let sleep in that
bedroom :-)

Seems like an awful lot of work, when you consider that one Cloudkill spell
kills Umber Hulks like Raid kills flies. One shot, no saving throw, they
all die instantly. I had my stealthed thief open the door, then my mage
(Nalia) gassed the room. Imagine my surprise when the whole pack just
rolled over and croaked. Easiest 20000 XP I ever got. :)

I kicked the butt of 7 out of the 8 golems (the Iron one kept getting
me, and it didn't occur to me that I could *run*...) After finishing
the quest the golems and the accompanying items seem to disappear, so
I think you do indeed have to finish it before the keep quest is over.
I've heard that the door will keep the big one (who's too big to go
through the door) inside, but the other ones will follow you around.

Yeah, I figured the dogs were for stew as soon as I found them, but wondered
what would the druid say about my old family recipe for Dog Stew. So I
tried taking on the umbers and kept getting trashed in short order. Then I
tried the cloudkill (only spell I hadn't tried, I was saving it) and they
just fell over. So, what does the druid say about Dog Stew?
Mark (the other Mark)
I ran out the door then headed the south and closed that door. Thatll
keep them all out of you hair. (On a side note make sure your on your
way up from the basment.)
Count yourself lucky. I let a couple of golems out - 2 clay and 1 stone,
just so I could get to the flail part. I then escaped down the stairs to the
basement to get the troll baddies. I couldn't save as the golems were still
active. When I had finished the quest with the trolls, the only way back was
past the golems, blocking the top of the stairs. I had to sacrifice Jaheira
and Minsc to hold open the door (no great loss....) and let the others
escape in good order. I suspect the stone-to-flesh ring may have come in
handy here on the stone golem, but didn't think about it in time. Anyhow, at
the end of all this I couldn't resurrect Jaheira as she had the curse on her
and died as soon as she was resurrected - so I had to ditch her - again, no
great loss.
And then I've lost the part of the flail that one of them was carrying.
Disaster.
So, if you want to tackle the golems or get the flail part, do it AFTER
doing the basement...

or you can cloudkill the hulks.... a bit less tedious, though wasteful. put
a powerful guy blocking the door so they can't get through.
