It's a side quest. You miss about 5K XP, 8K gp or so worth of
loot, and a nice item which can be obtained by "other means."
It is not worth re-doing the CW mindes, IMHO.
In return, you get some other side quest, the details of which I
hope to find out soon.

He gives you a bonus quest at the Merchant's Guild that is not essential to the
game, although it does yield a nice sword that is plus 3 vs. shapeshifters. I
wouldn't revert to a saved game that far back unless you're a real completist.
That's what replays are for. ;)
Have you tried going back to Cloakwood in your current game just to see if he
still shows up there?
