Apparently I can't follow instructions very well. I have tried making
custom characters in Multiplayer Mode so that I can then import them
into a Solo game. I want to start with 6 custom character that I can
run.

I'm not connected to any network, etc. I tried following some
instructions I found on the Web but after I created my characters (all
six of them!!) I couldn't find any way to save or import/export them!

Could somebody please tell me (in excruciating detail) on exactly how
this procedure is done?

Thanks.

you need to start the multi-player game and make a save.
then you close bg. and move the mpsave from the mpsave dir to the
save dir. then start bg load save you moved

Choose pre-generat charcter in multi game. Make the character you wish
and press export. Repet six times. ;-) Create a multi game. Import the
charachters. Press the "skull-buttons" beside each character and press
done. Go fort and create mayhem!

Start a multiplayer game (use a modem, serial setting because you're not on
a LAN). Start a new game, and import all your characters. Go into the game
itself and save the game. Copy the game to the Save folder (from the MPSave
folder) and re-start the game in single player mode. Load the save game you
created in multiplayer and you should find you have great custom party!
