I've started over again, and this time I encountered a man named
Kissiq, before I met Melicamp. He told me about a talking hen, and
suggested that it was some kind of demon at work. Now when I talk
to Melicamp he just makes chicken noises, and I can't have any kind
of dialogue with him. Have anyone else experienced this, and is
there a way to still pick Melicamp up?

On my only meeting w/ Melicamp, I too had spoken to Kissiq, however, this
did not affect the interaction with the chicken...

You know, I ran into a similar problem in Baldur's Gate on a quest
which requires you to interact with a certain character named
Lothander several times. i won't spoil it for you since you have not
gotten there yet. On the third time I needed to talk to Lothander, I
kept clicking on him, only to have him repeat the same voice sample
over and over, but without opening up a dialouge. Foruntately, there
was also a lowly commoner in this room, so I talked to him and then
talked to Lothander a few seconds later. This time I got the dialouge
box.

That was the only time I ran into a problem like this. I too have
encoutered Kissiq before talking to Melicamp *a talking chicken!
Gadzooks!* but it did not limit access to Melicamp's subquest. There
are several other NPC's on the same map including some Knobgoblin
bandits and Bassilus the evil cleric as well as a little girl who's
been spying on Bassilus. Try talking to one of them (and fighting, if
necessary) and then returning to Melicamp to see if he'll talk to you
now. Also, probably if you reloaded the problem resolved itself and
you won't need to do any of this. However, this advice might come in
handy if the bug crops up again...

I think you have to kill the wolf just west of Melincamp so he will calm
down enough to talk.

Thanks, I'll try reloading, and if that doesn't help, I'll talk to
someone else before returning to Melicamp - and in a few hours I'll
report back here whether it helped or not.

I had to go talk with another NPC, but when I returned to Melicamp,
I could talk to him.

Did you kill the wolf in the NE corner before talking to Melincamp? As
a chicken he may just be too frightened to be coherent :-)

Hi !

I'm experiencing the same issue than Peter.
The chicken Melicamp is all alone, there is no attacking wolf, and obviously he reacts just like he was attacked and never comes.

I tried to talk to other characters in other areas, sleep, save+quit+load, but still no wolf :[

I don't know if Peter, you'd have some recommendations?

Thank you!

The wolf is over near the top right corner of the map, a bit east of where
you meet Melicamp. (X: 4372, Y: 468). If you can't find it, enable cheats
and spawn the creature "WOLFCH". Kill it and then try talking to Melicamp
again.

To enable cheats: (Assuming you're playing the Enhanced Edition.) With the
game *NOT* running, open
"Documents\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition\Baldur.lua"
in Notepad and add this line anywhere in the file (the top is fine):
SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Debug Mode','1')
Save it and close.
(For original BG, if I remember correctly it's "Baldur.ini", section
"Program Options", Debug Mode=1.)

(Note that cheating will disable Steam Achievements for the current session,
so once you're done with this, I recommend closing the game and then
deleting the above line from Baldur.lua immediately after killing the wolf
and before talking to Melicamp.)

To spawn the wolf: In game, press Ctrl+Space to open the console, then enter
the command:
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("WOLFCH")
(You should be able to copy and paste the above.) Press Esc to close the
console.

Peter is probably not still waiting for an answer after more than 23 years.

Thank you so much Auric, it's perfectly working!

You're welcome.

I've been here for a *very* long time. (Not since 1999, but still.) BG2 is
in my top 3 games; BG1 is in my top 10.
