There have been some individuals (Ok, one especially) on this newsgroup who
have proudly tried to justify their crimes of pirating Baldur's Gate. I
won't attempt to comment on that particular topic; I think the other's have
accomplished that task quite well.

What I do wish to say to you (and all that worked on the masterpiece that is
Baldur's Gate) is please...please...please do not let these few individuals
(or even the one) sour you on the legions of B.G. fans. I think I speak for
most of us when I say that we truly appreciate the extraordinary effort that
was put into this game. It was obviously a labor of love. It's great that
you continue to keep the lines of communication open to the fans.

I have purchased many games in the past and some were worth the purchase
price and others wern't, but in the case of B.G. I will actually go so far
as to say that I would gladly have paid more for the game. It's that good.
If some choose to break the law and pirate the game, well, that's their
choice. But, I believe it needs to be said that myself and others appreciate
your hard work and are happy to support your continued efforts by actually
"purchasing" your products.

Thanks.

On the February 99 issue of Computer Gaming World, the editor foreseen
in the nearest future that because of the availability of CD burner, most
companies are thinking of going back to the bad o' days of copy protection.
Yep, entering a code word from the manual while in the middle of the game,
etc... At lease no bad sector copy protection like when I was still using
the C-64 in the good o' days. As far as pirate of CD goes, I don't think it
is as bad as the days of floppy game which you can download easily. You
can't compress the whole CD and set it to somewhere. I brought my copy of
Baldur's Gate on the fourth day and was greatly happy of it. Can't wait for
further development of the expansion pack and sequel. Again, another note,
to Ray and everyone in Interplay, please get the license to the Dragonlance
world. It will be greatly fun to adventure in Krynn again.

Thanks!

I second that.... Dragonlance.... home of the All Mighty Dragons..... I could
wear black robes or a be a Knight of the Rose.... or a cleric of Paladine.... or
be a pest of a kender.....

Ha! Dragonlance.... the realm of my dreams.

With the huge outpouring of support and kudos from the Baldur's Gate
fans, there's no way someone like our friend Q-Ball could sour anyone
from Black Isle/Interplay, and Bioware too (but I imagine Ray would
want to speak for them!).

There's so much talk in the halls here at BIS/Interplay about the
amazing response to the game; I know it's almost overwhelming and
gratifying to everyone who had anything to do with the game. The few
bad apples can't spoil that.

I didn't even create the game, just did a little promotion and some
chats, and I feel proud too.. having 700 people show up for the last
chat I hosted was mind-blowing and gratifying, and I've met tons of
great people online through them.

So, thank YOU for the words of support, and don't ever worry that one
or two idi^H^H^Hpeople could make the thousands of true fans look bad!

I find it disheartening that Q-Ball should carry on ranting about the
justifications of pirating a game we worked so hard on for the last 3 years.
Then to post how great a game Baldur's Gate is. I'm sorry Q-Ball, the compliment
has been drowned by the myriad of false justifications and a silly attempt of
clever wording of both which fail to impress anyone, least of all, your own
spell checker. In the end, you have secured no compassion and hold in contempt
the disrespect of anyone on the newsgroups. And still, you choose to enslave
those who would provide a game for others to enjoy. The true measure of
character is the heart that rules the spirit that guides the beliefs that
commands the thought long before action is ever considered.

To the fans who eagerly anticipated Baldur's Gate and many who pre ordered the
game long before it was released, we at BioWare applaud you for your eternal
patience (it seems!), and useful thoughts, criticisms, and suggestions, all
which were taken to heart. Baldur's Gate is our poem to you. We will always work
hard to satisfy the gamer in you, and keep in touch on the newsgroups, message
boards, emails, and chats.

Thanks again and hope to see you on GameSpy/Heat!

I think this last point needs to be emphasized. I bought 14 games last year, all of the $40-$50 dollar kind. I won't name names but 4 were great, 7 were ok, 2 were not so good, and one abousolutely sucked. I got BG on the 28th of Dec so it gets included in the Great category which means I will happily hand over more money for expansions and sequels. I think that this is the greatest compliment you can give a programmer/developer, (heh it would work for me, don't applaud, just throw money). To everyone involved with this game, I can't wait to give you more money.

Not to mention that he is missing out on the manual and the great artwork.

In my enthusiam about the game itself I forgot to mention about the manual.
All the indepth info is so much better than the "here's how to load and play
the game" basic approach that so many companies have adopted. I love a game
manual that I can curl up in bed with and read til I fall asleep. (Of
course, my wife might have another point of view on the matter.) : )

God, I agree 100%! I went to the EB in out town 8 times in ONE day (the 23rd
I think) hoping it would come in, but the next day it did, and I was one of
the lucky few that got it before xmas... But, man, the map, the manual--I
mean, BOOK, and the cool cd holder.. I was like the old days of opening an
Infocom box, and finding trinkets like a bag of fake gold, or some coins, or
a stone... maps.. I LOVE IT! :-).. I MADE 3 of my friends buy it too.. and
they thanked me for pushing them to it! hehe..

Can't wait till the add-on is out, and use the engine to make tons of new
'stories' like the goldbox did!
