I've updated my BIF handling utility (In the "suite" directory off the
second link in my signature). It can extract BIF files and view all
information I know of of any BG file format. The change is to use
chitin.key if properly setup (There's information on how to do that on
the page) which allows properly named files -- for example, unzipping
data/creature.bif gives a file named creature/drizzt.cre, rather than
the index number it had been giving. You could then modify the file
and copy it to your override directory.

The memory use of the utility can be phenomenal, well over 20
megabytes when viewing large BIF files. It's a good idea to unzip the
BIF and view the files individually. Extracting files should be very
memory friendly although it can take a while for bitty-file-rich BIFs.

If you have any comments, questions, hints, problems, or information
on the file formats, please contact me at lo...@cow-net.com.
