Hi folks!

Is there any way to change or eliminate the sound effect of the "scroll
unfurling" when mousing-over an item?
Thanks in advance!

This may be my imagination, but I set the timer delay for those
"scroll unfurlings" to the 2nd fastest possible setting. (The fastest
setting of 0 delay was just too quick.) When the game moves faster
and you don't have that delay to wait for the scroll to unfurl, the
game and sound seemed a lot less annoying in general.

You can also replace the "paper.wav" file, which is the sound file used for
the tool-tip effect.

Use windows sound recorder (or something) and put a blank/silent replacement
"paper.wav" file into the override directory. (I think the format is 22k
hz, 8-bit, mono.)

Thanks for the tip on "paper.wav", GB!
That's exactly what I wanted to do, but I can't find it anywhere!
I searched my entire installation but must've passed it by somehow...

It will be compressed in one of the .bif files. But, if you put
paper.wav in the override folder as Gebhard suggested, the game will
look there instead of in the .bif.

Hi Sqweek!

This is the first I'm hearing anything about an override folder! [checking
now] Ok, I found the folder, but cannot play any of the .wav's in there.
Windows says I don't have a certain codec to play them manually.

Are you saying I can just choose (or create) a .wav and simply place it in
this override folder, and it will play (during the game, I mean) instead of
the original .wav? That sure would be great if so, I'm gonna try it! (Thanks
in advance!)

[several minutes later]

It worked, it worked!! :-)
Thanks again, it was *so* simple...but only after you helped me find the
answer!

Thanks again! :-) I'm just a little confused as to *how* you guys knew that
there was a file called "paper.wav" in the first place. Is there some
invisible list somewhere on my HD of all the names of the SFX wav's in the
game?

For total silence, place an empty (0-byte length) PAPER.WAV file
into the override\ directory.

There are tools you can download that let you look into the game data.
Take a look at:

Thanks, Billy!
It's all a little over my head, but amazing none the less.
