theives I ran across a gondola "pulsing with a strage energy". On
closer examination it appears to be an alter of some kind. Does anyone
know what should be placed within it to trigger a response?

Sounds like you have finished the Vamps (or are close to it), but have not
gone back to the thieves guild to report mission accomplished. Once you
get your next assignment from the thieves guild, things will lead you back
to this alter. Nothing you can do there now.

Usenet works slightly differently than UBB boards. Your message will
typically be sent to everyone's server, where it sits waiting to be
downloaded. Once they download it, it will be marked as unread and most
newsreaders will let you automatically move to the next unread message.
For example, I currently have 104 unread messages to be read.

Open up outlook express.
Your isp installer should have configured a news account for you if not
then try news.myisp.com (or similar - actually call your isp and ask help
setting up your outlook express newsreader).
