Hi all,

On the top floor of the Friendly Arm Inn, there's a
demihuman NPC (I forgot if the little guy was a dwarf,
gnome or halfling) who sends you on a quest to retrieve
a "belt of piercing" from an "ogre with a belt fetish"
just south of the Inn (North of the Beregost map).
I killed the ogre, took the two belts he had,
and brought them back to the NPC, but when I talk to
him, he doesn't recognize that I have the belt(s).
I tried putting on the belt of piercing, and then
talking to him. Didn't work. I identified it, and
then spoke to him again. Still didn't work.
Since I lost a character killing the ogre (first
level party), I'd like to get the reward for
bringing back the belt. Or is the belt of piercing
more useful than the reward?

Anyone have similar problems or a solution?
(I've applied the patch, btw).

Thanks!

Joe

I've never really used the belt but if memory serves me right, the reward
wasn't all that great either. A friend of mine just kept the belt and
played on. But btw, the person was on the second floor of FA, the one on
the top floor is the lady with the spider quest.

Could you send the savegame to me? I tried to repeat the bug but I could
not do it. Thanks.

Keep the belt, it's a good item. If you want to return it, have the belt in
a standard possession slot (not equipped) on the person talkng to the dwarf.

Hang on to the belt. You will only be offered 70 gp if you return it
to owner. Identify it. Then you can sell it for 10X tha tor keep it
for its added value in combat.

Keep the Belt and use it towards building up a character
resistant to missile attacks. Add appropriate boots and
gauntlets when you find them and you've got a very handy
diversion.

Is very useful when going against archers....

Give a bonus of +4 to your AC (IMS) against arrows (and spears and such).

The belt IS better than the reward. Oh, and if you lost a character other
than Xzar or Montaron, (or Jaheira) you might want to go back and reload....

Make sure that the character holding the belts is the one who talks to the
gnome - if you send 1 person up and leave the others on another level, it
doesn't see the items.

I just took the Belt of Piercing to the demihuman NPC and he recognized it
immediately, he gave me 95 gold and a history book signed by him. Right now
I'd rather keep the belt, I have several thousand golds and I don't know if
the history book is worth reading. Is it better to have the book or the
belt?

Far as I know the book isn't worth anything except the informational
value of reading it, but I could be wrong. I take all the books I
collect (that aren't part of quests) and dump them in a designated
barrel in a town.

My approach to Unshey's quest was a little different. I sized up the
reward for the Girdle of Piercing and decided to keep it. As for the
Girdle of Sex Change, I gave it to Minsc, whom I determined had a need
to get in better touch with his feminine side.

RCV: Definitely, keep the belt. Considering all of the ranged weapons
using Bandits and Kobolds and the like, the belt is very valuable for anyone
with a poor AC...

RCV: You can sell the books in a few places for a GP each.

Put the belt on Shar-Teel. Now is that *evil*, or what? *grin*

RCV: That is certainly, in her case, NOT politically correct! :) I think she should
kill herself it that happens ;)
