I am trying to find an email address to complain about a user in another
group. I've had a friend run a check on the guy's header info, he came up
with an address and an ISP, and yet the man I'm wanting to complain about
denies that they're his ISP (Okay, so he could be lying, but I'd like a
second opinion).

Since I'm a complete computer-dunce, I'd like someone else to take a look
and see if they can verify what this guy's ISP is, so I can get his trolling
banned.

Okay, so I know I've been guilty of a *little* trolling in the past, but I'm
totally over it now, hehe... (besides, I have better things to do with my
time!).

Thanks to anyone who has the time to help :)

In OE you choose the persons post, press CTRL+F3 and a small window with a
grey background pops up. Somewhere in the window you should see a line that
says something like:

X-Complaints-To: ab...@theplanet.net

(the above is yours :)

That should be the proper address to report him to (these addresses are
usually ab...@ISP.com). I'm not sure if this 100% foolproof though, I don't
know if it's possible to make it write something else.
I hope you find the real address.

First, most ISP's are tolerant towards a little abuse and/or flaming. If it
is just a few posts, forget it, they most likely going to ignore your
complain.

It is possible to fake an id and and address, but those capable of doing it
more than likely are not those who harrash someone in newsgroups. Those are
the 'professional' hackers and they are most likely trying to access
www.secrets.whitehouse-us.gov and similar areas. (Good read I can assure you
;)

Use either CRTL F3 or rightclick/properties to access the following screen :

You are using outlook express version 5.5 and I am reading it by my ISP

When in doubt; either send it to the ISP you think or your own ISP. When
they deem it necessary to take action, both should be more then capable to
see if he is lying.

Again, I think the best you can do is simply ignore that person; unless he
is sending unwelcome private e-mails.

The best you can hope for is that his account is disabled. If it is a
dial-in account, then a new account is created without any problem. If it is
an ADSL/Cable account your action has more meaning, but it isn't done soon.

Not every user on the internet knows how to behave. It really resembles real
life :( Some even use the internet solemnly to harrash people. Their kind of
recreation. They go away if ignored.

I am not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

excellent post Draakje

Also, since you are using OE 5.5, you can use the tools > message rules >
news option to create a new rule deleting any messages from any particular
sender. Just choose the "where from line contains people" then click on the
hyper link it creates and type in the offenders screen name and click OK.
then check the "delte it" box at the bottom and click OK 2 times and you'll
never see a post under that screen name again.

Use a site like this one http://dns411.com/ to do a whois on his ISP, this
looks up their domain registration details, including abuse contacts.

Can everyone do me a big favour and send a click through to
http://www.xmoo.com/vse/index.html?referral=plasma for me?
It's just a cartoon stock exchange I play, and I get game money for every
click I can collect, so I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.
