Hi

I hope someone can help me, as I can't get into Baldurs Gate. I'm
assuming that to get in, you cross the bridge at Wyrm's Crossing and
turn left at the end. I do this, but can't get in.

I've finished the Cloakwood Mines and killed Daveorn, and I left by the
elevator. I read in the official FAQ that someone with boots of speed
AND haste can leave before tripping the 'invisible switch', but I simply
walked my party normally onto the elevator, then flooded the mines. I
don't recall whether I saw Chapter 5 starting. The one thing which
worries me is that I left behind Daveorn's letters after reading them (I
was short of inventory slots). Unfortunately, I've done a fair bit since
completing the mine, and I no longer have a saved game from before it -
except for one from a long time before.

Am I trying to enter BG the correct way? If I am, is there any way to
cheat in order to get in? I don't want to replay half the game again,
just to get back where I am now!

Thanks in advance,

Graeme Cogger

If you are in chapter 5, you can go to the bridge which you see at the
north of the map. You have to get there by leaving the top of the
farmlands map. When you've crossed the bridge, you are in Baldur's
Gate.

Sounds as though you're fine. If you can cross the bridge, then you can
enter Baldur's Gate. Go under the gateway and you should be able to
continue off the map to the first section of the city.

Just to be sure, you could check your journal. It will tell you which
chapter you are in.

Give this a try, and if it still doesn't work, let us know.

To enter BG you must first finish the cloakwoods after the mines.

Go to Beregost and I think in the joker inn you will meet someone that he
will give you the way to thief camp. (map will adjust)

You should always grab letters etc when completing a section - you need
proof that what you say is the truth and they often trigger the end of
chapter storyline adjustments. Get gatekeeper and edit in the letters you
left behind.

It sounds like you've missed the gap in the city wall. It's on the
morthernmost part of the wall, so you're looking straight down on the wall
and can't see the gap - however, if you move your party near it, you'll see
by the uncovered territory where the gap is. Pass through there and you can
click on the area border to access the first Baldur's Gate city area.

OK - found it :-) I guess that when I didn't find it easily I assumed
the worst, since I'd heard that there could be problems getting into the
city.

Thanks very much.

Open your journal and see if there is any text under chapter 5

As Ron says - If you are in fact at the end of the bridge you should
be able to walk through the gate and into the start of the city.
Confusion sometimes arises here because the gate isn't 100% obvious as
you see the walls more from above. When I got there I walked
forward until the road at the end of the bridge apparently stopped at
the wall - by this time a small patch of inner roadway was showing on
the other side, so I clicked on that and they just walked through
wherever the opening is. If this doesn't work you may have a more
complex problem - hope that's not the case.
