I'm just curious. Has anyone else started a multiplayer game with 3 or 4
characters (or more) and played through the single player game? I find that
it allows me to more closely customize my party to fit my personal playing
style.

Yep, I'm playing just such a game now. Makes for an entertaining game. And
as characters ("NPCs") buy the farm, I can add new ones (starting at 1st
level) or just wait til we come across one of the many game NPCs.

Many people have done this, but I don't think it is as much fun as
creating one character and let some NPCs join up.

I did, on my first game, because I was used to composing a party
that way in other games. It went well, but in retrospect, I was wrong
to do this on the first game.
I find it much more fun to have the NPC's along.

The first time I played the game until the end (which was, in fact, my
second party), I had 5 of my own characters, and they took Jaheira with
them. It was fun, but I missed some of the other fun - the NPC's. So, after
that I played an evil party (an evil main character, with evil NPC's making
up the rest of the party), and recently I started an all-thief party (a
thief main character, with only pure thief NPC's making up the rest of the
party), following up Scarlet Herring's suggestion. And in the same vein,
there are still many more different parties to play, with all the different
NPC's in the game.
But I agree with you that the multi/single player game has a charm of its
own.

Rens.
