BG2: How do I get to other areas of the map.

This may seem like a really stupid question, but how do I travel to other
areas on the map that are not on the map yet. I know in BG1 you can travel
to areas by exiting sides of areas at finding new places. In BG2 I can't
seem to do that, how do I get to new places on the map if they are unlisted.
Do I have to wait for a quest to update my map, or buy something?

You have to wait for a quest for most places to show up on your map so talk
with every npc you encounter.

Damn, I have to go to an area northeast I think of druid grove but there
isn't any spot on the map for it..I wish I could travel around like in BG1,
it would make it easier.

acorns... and I can't because the stupid map won't let me go anywhere...
Anyone know how I get to them... no spoilers please, all I want is where to
get the quest which will let me access the right hills...
