I am a fighter - mage. I did the sphere quest, and got the place for
myself. Got three underlings, who are working on a magical item for
me. I guess there's no more to it,I have the place to myself now. A
cowled wizard drops in time to time and tells me stuff I must do.

Then I did Nalia's quest and to my surprise, she gave the place to me.
I thought if a dual class PC got one keep, he wouldn't get the other.
If I accept Nalia's offer, will I eventually lose the mage keep? Or is
it actually possible to have both?

I believe that you will lose the first 'Keep', why not do a save and
try it, find out for sure .....

Because it may take a while before the keep is taken away. Or until a
certain event happens. Thus I need someone who has done this to say if it
happened to them or not. Kinda like Anomen's quest.

Does anyone know if a ranger can get a keep and which quest its part of.

According to the info I've got, a ranger will get a quest that lets them
have "a cabin and its surrounding protectorate, including a village".
Whether that's correct or not I don't know for certain, my copy of the game
not having turned up yet.

if you go to www.bgchronicles.com then you can find details of the
strongholds there.

How do you get Nalia's keep? I completed that quest and she didn't
give it to me...

I finished the Sphere quest and didn't get any offer like that.

Who did you talk to, to get the spere for yourself?

Yes, a Ranger does get a cabin. This applies to the kits also. I am
playing an Archer and the first quest I went on was to clear some
village of wolve attacks (Ulma or something like that). The quest
wasn't all that easy. Had to explore the 'Ulm or whatever' region
first; then you got some clues to visit another area, full of shadows
and undead. Anyway, when you finish, the mayor gives you a cabin that
used to be owned by someone who was killed trying to do the same thing
you just did. Somehow, it didn't seem that generous---awarding the
cabin of a dead person who died trying to help the village. Seems like
some relatives might have wanted it...

But it was stocked with some potions and bullets and other stuff. Plus
you can rest safely there.

My daughter was playing a game (not as a ranger) and she could visit the
cabin but couldn't rest.

I suspect the cabin may be occasionally restocked but haven't played
enough to know for sure.

Also, as far as 'keep' quests go, I believe that the first quest
suggested by the boy in Athlatka (just after you find out about Imoen)
is the quest you need to get your keep. At least, that has been true
for me in two games---one as a Ranger and one as a Paladin.

OK here it goes one more time:

Dual Class characters get Strongholds for their current class e.g. if you
were a theif and you dualled to mage you will only get it for a mage.

MultiClass: Characters can choose which one they want (they can only have
one) by choosing the quest related to the one they want.

All Character can go on the quests for the other Strongholds they just won't
get the Stronghold in the end.

Hence if you already have the Mage stronghold then doing Nalia's Quests (or
whatever) will have no affect on it although doing the strong hold quests is
really good for XP!

You have to be a fighter.

Each class has a different "keep" and a different quest or set of quests
to get it. Fighters get the Keep, Mages get the above, Rangers get a
cabin, and so on.

So fighters and mages get these cool keeps while the Ranger gets... a
cabin? Doesn't that seem a little...well...imbalanced?

How does the cabin compare to a keep or stronghold?

OK one more time:
I am a dual class F-M. I got the mage keep. I got the underlings making things
for me. Then I did Nalia's quest and got the keep. Got the taxes and
everything. So, got both keeps.

What I don't know is if in a few days Teos will pop-up and say I can't have the
sphere anymore or not. Teos comes in whenever he wants, so I couldn't save and
go find out.

I did it as cleric fighter multi class. IF you do nalia's first it affects the other' but not in reverse. Doing the other class does not preclude getting nalia's keep. To get both, I accepted and finished the cult quest before accepting hers, though honestly, you might be able to simply finish it first. Once you have set the cleric or mage keep in motion (I.e., finished the quest to accept the hold in the first place) it seems as though you are set. But it has to be done before the nalia quest is begun.

Yep, that's been known for a while. It's really a bug; you're not supposed to
be able to get more than one. I'm sure there's a patch somewhere that'll let
you get any combination of keeps that you want, and if there isn't, it
wouldn't be too hard to write one.

One of the mod packs has a component that allows you to get more then
one. I think it is the BG 2 Tweak pack but I am not sure.

Yup, BG2 Tweaks has it. Sword Coast Stratagems used to have one too but
it was deprecated in the recent versions in favor of the Tweaks one.

It wouldn't be too hard to write your own with a little WeiDU magic,
it's mostly dialog.
