Dual class and multi class hit points...

I've played through BG1 a couple times and now I'm working on BG2, but
here's one thing I've never got the low-down on:

How does hit point calculation work for dual and multi classes?

For example, if I am a multiclass ftr/cleric, I know I get d10/2 hp
every fighter level, and d8/2 every cleric level. But are fractions
rounded up or down? What about the constituion bonus? Do I get half
of it every time, and how is it rounded? And at ftr level 11, I get 3
hp divided by two. Once again, how's that rounded?

Now let's say I instead play as a pure fighter up to level 10, then
dual to cleric. Do I get a d8 plus constitution bonus each cleric
level, or do I just get the fixed 2 hp for levels over 10? I'm
guessing I get the d8, is that right?

A constitution 18 or 19 (dwarf or half-orc) ftr/cleric could post some
incredible hp numbers if so... Say you are playing on max hp setting -
(10 * (10 + 5)) + (10 * (8 + 2)) = 250 hp's! Whoa!

Also, I begin to see how playing a few levels as a fighter then
dualing to mage could make your mage MUCH more durable, while hardly
making a dent in the XP cap. Not to mention, of course, making him
much more capable with his ranged weaponry. The downside being no
mage specialization...

Multi-class:

IIRC, the "leftovers" are rounded down. But at the next level, you get it
back when the "leftovers" are rounded up.

Dual class:

Your 10th level fighter would have the normal hit dice 9d10 + 3 + CON bonus.

Dualling to Cleric, he would receive NO hit points until he makes 11th level
Cleric, where he would get the normal 2 points that any 11th level Cleric
gets.

No. Up to fighter level 10, you get HP as a normal fighter
(obviously). From there, up to cleric 10, you get NOTHING.
Past that, you gain HP as a cleric (i.e. 2 per level, IIRC.)

Indeed. This is why it's so popular. If you dual at level 9
fighter, you can have as much at 90 HP + CON bonuses, which
makes working with first-level mage abilities a lot more
survivable...

Due to a bug in the game, if you start as a fighter kit
you get the benefits of a specialist mage without the
spell limitations.
