OK, I'm trying to get into the Merchant League building to get the
charts for the guy in Ulgoth's Beard, but the door is un-pickably
locked. What have I missed?
If you can just give me a helpful nudge without an actual spoiler,
that would be appreciated.
Thanks

You want the counting house in the north-east part of baldur's gate...
**spoiler about merchant league**

As for the league itself, the only way inside to to defend that guy in
cloakwood against the druids... (instead of siding with them like most people
do)

It's not in the Merchant League. Try the Counting House.

Are you sure that you are in the right place? Its not the merchants league
on the same map with the flaming fist headquarters and seven suns inn... :)
Otherwise... if you are in the right spot, try either using a potion of
master theivery or have a mage cast knock.
If you dont know where to go and you think that you are in the wrong place
consult your journel for clues... :)

I just say that you don't have to be there, I think you can read it in your
journal.

The COUNTING HOUSE door is locked, but my thief picked it. Anyway.
Just say the right phrases to the guard on floor 1 and the captain on
floor 2. You'll be asked to get him some strong drink from the
Blushing Mermaid. Give the drink to him, he hands you the charts,
return to Ulgoth and off you sail towards werewolf island (isle of
balduran).

I didn't know you could get the charts without killing them. Thanks I
will solve it peacefully next time.

I have actually tried to get in peacefully several times and I have never
been able to. Finally I just ran right past them to the stairs to avoid
killing everyone.

I always defend Sashenstar against the Druids, so that's not the problem.

Thanks to everybody who pointed out the obvious which I totally
missed. I am left a little wiser and a lot humbler.

On my second time through, my thief managed to pickpocket the sea charts
off the Captain and didn't bother with getting the ale from Blushing
Mermaid.

Why would you side w/ the druids? Kill the druids and get the exp, and
crackerjack prizes :) Go to the merchants league and accept the quest, go
inside, kill all the dopplegangers, get the 1000g in the drawer, kill the
guy, and get his sword anyway.

The only plus in siding w/ the druids is you get the experience from killing
his brother.. (which is nothing compared to the bloodshed inside the
merchants leage)

Because the other guy's apparently a murderer?

Plus his brother's nifty crossbow, which is a very decent missile weapon,
especially against tough-AC opponents.

You can get into the Merchants League even if you side with the druids - via
sewers :)

Care to enlighten us as to directions, or just make us all go
sewer-crawling? The thing that I really dislike about the
sewers is that the underground exits bear no relationsip to where
they appear above ground. Sometimes, two sewer grates that are
on the same screen above ground lead to completely different MAPS
underground.

IIRC, there're only 2 exits from the whole sewers system that go
*inside* a building -- Iron Throne, Undercellars. I don't even remember
there's a basement in the Merchant League. So if you've discovered
something we haven't, we'll gladly hear about it.

You do realize that Skywalker asked his question ***SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO***
right? I'm pretty sure he's not still waiting for an answer.

And the count burst into a laugh; a terrible laugh,
that showed he must have suffered horribly to be able thus to laugh.

Oh, so *that's* what he was doing on that planet?! Damn, you'd think The Last
Jedi(TM)(R)(C)(SM)(LMNOP) could find a better use for his time.
