I have notived that when I equip a wand (the ones gained from the 2nd level
of the first dungeon) they have a number 1 on the quick item picture, just
like a quick spell. I presume this means they have 1 charge left. I don't
remember BG1 telling me how many charges were left. If that is the case, I like
the idea.
Any ideas whether they can be recharged? If so where? I have tried shops and
a temple to no avail.
TIA
Rich
You are correct about the number referring to the number of charges, so save
a game, sell a wand, buy it back, and see if it has any more charges.

I've discovered this doesn't work at Sorcerous Sundries. Works at the other
stores though, if they'll purchase wands.
You can also recharge any rings that might need it, such as the Ring of
Invisiblity purchased at Ulgoth's Beard.

I think that this is just a sell and buy back deal. I tried firing
off those wands and, as you say - one shot and fizzo... they vanish.
When I was at the pub at the slums area (Copper coronet?.. not sure,
but a place where you get quite a lot of 'interesting options') I sold
all the wands for a few coins and noticed that there was then a full
set available at a high price. I'm not 100% certain but I think that
this was the same wands "recharged". Couldn't check it out as they now
cost 10,000 + and I only had 9,000.
