IIRC you don't unlock it, you just enter it.

Thanks I thought that was the case.

There must be something I missed as after I answered the riddles and
fought the warders I thought that was enough to enter and when I went to
enter I found it was still locked. I hope I have a saved game I can go
back to and start the debauchery again.

Damn more stress :)

Perhaps you are missing a wardstone that allows to exit this level (maybe it
was even called "Exit level 2" or something similar). I don't, however,
remember where to find it.

There is a wardstone on one of the bodies of the warders.

The wardstone can be found on one of the warders' dead body.

I just thought of something: has anyone ever tried to pickpocket the warders
before they become hostile? If so: can you get the wardstone that way, and
is it possible to go to the next level without bothering with the puzzles
and the warders? Maybe I'll give it a try next time I'm there....

Good question. I'm approaching that point in the game and will let you know,
if you don't beat me to it.

Thanks all.

I found an earlier saved game and tried again (found the stione this
time).

I just read about bugs and patches and just wondered if I may have a
glitch.
Down on the next lecel there are some steps going down again and every
time I step
into them the screen just blinks and I am still on the same level.

There is a door next to the steps I cant seem to open. Any hints please.

Spoiler

Ahh. Found some dummy steps? To open the nearby door and get access to
the 'real' stairs, you need the level 2 exit ward stone. [Check out the
west of the level again]
