I'm playing Icewind Dale for the first time, and I happened to stumble
across a strange bottle: razorwine extract. The inscription on it says it's
'property of Mourns-For-Trees' (isn't this the guy from Planescape:
Torment?!). Is there any use for this bottle, or is it just taking up my
inventory slot?

No need for detailed spoilers, just a hint :)

Explore the whole of the area where you found it.

Give it to the wizard Bandoth in entry level of Dorns Deep- He'll appriceate
it, maybe even trade with you?

You need to head for the very top right hand corner of the map,
accessed by a hard to see dark passage/overhang near the cave
entrance. Its worth heading up there for other reasons, especially if
you get stuck on the next area.

There used to be a bug with the small (no big deal if you dont do it)
quest in that if you got the bottle first then you couldnt initiate
the quest.

poss. spoiler ahead...

If you all are referring to the crazy old mage which lives down there, i'm
f***ed :( Because I kind of killed the deranged fool (he started it, I just
wouldn't take his insults without some 'reckoning'!) I was able to buy some
scrolls from him first, but when I started to ask a little about the
surrounding caves, he got all suicidal and threatened me; had no choice, but
to show him who was the 'man'...

There's a tower or something in the north-east corner with a really grouchy
mage inside. He'll give you a quest to go and find his apprentice and the
razorwine - give it to him and he'll tell you something about the entrance
into Dorn's Deep i think. But be careful when you talk to him or he'll get
*really* annoyed and fight you.

I love it when people on here say ''aw shit, I dog gown darn it kill
that son 'o a bitch already!'' :)

I cant believe people play that way. Were I a game designer, they
would be enigma to me.
