Save it in your Characters directory in BG1, and then import character.
Or, get the Character Editor from a site such as the one below:

You don't. Just put it in the Baldur's Gate\characters folder.
This will make it possible for you to import them into a new game.
If you want to import them mid game you have to play in the multi
player mod.
