I would appreciate some advice on the reasons and solution for a
problem I'm having with BG II. A while back, I played up to the end
of Chapter 6, where you find the entrance to Suldanessellar. But I
decided not to continue on to the end of Shaodows of Amn quite yet,
but rather gain some levels by working my ay through part of Watchers
Keep first. By the time I returned to SoA, I had moved the game to a
new computer, and in the process some files may have gotten corrupted.
In any event, even though I have the Rhynn Lanthorn, the entrance to
Suldanessellar is still hidden. I notice that the description of the
Lanthorn mentions that its lenses must be in place; are these separate
items that I may have lost somewhere along the way, or does the
Lanthorn perhaps wear out after a certain period of time? Is there
some way around this problem without using the console, short of
replaying the entire game up to this point? If "Move to Area" is the
only practical way out, are there any hidden dangers with that
approach? Thanks in advance for any comments.

IIRC you have to enter the elven warcamp again and talk to the
general (I forgot his name). Then your party and some elfs move
to Suldanessellar to reveal it.

That happened the first time I found Suldanessellar. I suspect those
elves are now on the other side of the illusory entrance. I stopped
by the elven warcamp before returning to the Forest of Tethir;
unsurprisingly, the elven general did not offer another group of
elves to accompany me. It increasingly appears that "Move to Area"
is the only solution to my problem. Can anyone offer an alternative?

No, the only item you need is the Lanthorn.

There's no timer as far as I can tell...

MoveToArea will spawn your party in the top-left of the map, so you'll
need to ctrl-j them back to the entrance.

Hrm, he shouldn't even be there as he accomponies you to Suldanessellar
also...

How are you trying to get there? You can never get to Suldanessellar
directly from the world map, you have to go to the Forest of Tethir and
walk up one of the fallen trunks... but it sounds like you know this
already.
