Scimitar/Long sword?

First, it may be crafted more elegantly (curved blade etc.). So far the
in game reason. More important: a druid can wield scimitars, but not
longswords.

The only difference in game is that the Druid can use it. Also, I think
that it is a little faster, but that's it. For a fighter, I wouldn't use it
anyway. Use the LS until you get the magic ones.

I'm on Chapter 6 and have to even find a scimitar. I haven't found one in
any loot, nor have I seen any for sale. Is this something you see when
adding TOTSC? (I sure would like to get one for Jaheira instead of the
quarter staff she has)

Yes, it is a TOSC item, and when you add the expansion, it
should be available to you from chapter one. In BG (without
expansion), Drizzt Do'Urden carries two magical scimitars,
but some people consider their use cheating.

Why would it be concidered cheating? If you can kill Drizzt w/out modifying
your group, then you're obviously more deserving than he is (and those two
swords will make up for the 2-5 group members you lost in that battle)...

Use a club instead of a staff for now. Same speed factor, same damage,
but one-handed which allows her to use a shield. She can still use a
sling or darts in the other weapon slot. Of course, if the staff is
magical it´s another story...

Yes, the only scimitars in BG are the pair Drizzt has. In TOSC there are
some for sale, and a +2 one on the roof of DT.

Her quarter staff is +1. Isn't the damage on that 1-6+1, wheras a club's
damage would be 1-4?

A normal club does 1-6 damage, same as the staff.

Just for history:
Drizzt carries Long Swords in BG1. (They scimitars only By label, profiency is long swords)
Drizzt carries Scimitars in BG2. (profiency is scimitars )
Drizzt carries Scimitars in BGEE. (profiency is scimitars )
