Thanks

I've noticed this too every time I cast a second haste spell between
periods of rest. Maybe it's one of those AD&D limitations?
James
Haste fatigues characters, that's in the manual. Boots of Speed
shouldn't be, though.
Very interesting, seeing as there are only two pairs in SoA and one in ToB.
You are totally incorrect, there are far more than one pair in ToB. I
had my entire party speeded by Chapter 8, 5 of them wearing boots of
speed and 1 wearing the Grandmaster's Armour.
iirc Illasera has a pair, some other baddie in Saradush has a pair, and
the Scroll Shop in Saradush sells a pair.
Cheers!
David...
You're confused.
Spoiler for the location of Boots of Speed in ToB.
There's one pair on Ilasera and two pairs for sale in Saradush, at
different places (iirc--I'm only certain that there are two for sale and
one is at the tavern in Saradush). That still doesn't make six...but
it's a great deal more than one in ToB.
You missed them, you great big moonfruit!

[SPOILER]
Location of Boots of Speed:
1. Planar Prison, Halfling Thief Bounty Hunter.
2. Spellhold, Mithril Token Machine.
3. Shadow Thief Guildhouse, Renal Bloodscalp.
4. North Forest, Illasera. (ToB)
5. Saradush, Tankard Tree Inn. (ToB)
6. Saradush, Lazarus' Pen & Parchment Store. (ToB)

In SoA, there are two pairs - one in (I think) the Planar Prison
quest, and you can get the other in Spellhold. That makes a total of
six.
Or seven, if you use the "pause in the split-second before initial
cutscene" trick to drop your BG1 equipment before it's "stolen" from
you, thus importing your equipment from BG1, and import a character that
has the speed boots...
Jonathan.
There are five available in total plus the armour which which has the
same affect. The three you mentioned above plus 1 in the planar prison
and 1 available in the Spellhold maze.

Hmm, yes, I saw them on Renal, but I couldn't seem to pick-sock (whatever)
them off him.
???? 3 pairs of boots of speed between SoA and ToB? Maybe you should
look around a little harder.
1 pair from the planar prison SoA
1 pair from token machine SoA
1 pair from Illisera (sp?) ToB
1 pair from tavern in Saradush ToB
1 pair from wizard in Saradush ToB
Supposedly you can get a pair from Renal Blood Scalp in SoA
Don't remember where I got the 6th pair (wasn't from renal), give me a
break SoA and ToB add up to a lot of gaming. I can't remember where
everything was.
Anywho, in reply to some other posts, I am noticing this fatigue
problem without casting any haste spells. I may rest, then have a
medium sized battle, immediately after the battle Aerie will get the
fatigued symbol on her portrait and she will start complaining that
she has never done so much walking in her life. Everyone else in the
party can go and go and go before they start to complain of fatigue.
I have all the latest official patches from Black Isle Bioware.
Anyone else have any ideas about what is causing this? I'm about to
take the boots off of Aerie which will suck because everyone else will
be running around like a crack addict looking for their next score.
Battles are going to be over before Aerie ever gets there.

Is she casting Restoration spells, by any chance?
I also got a little tired of them walking so slow, so I rather set the frame
rate on 50 - 55 to give the enemies equal chance.
Yes and No. She does cast restoration spells, however this problem
seems to happen weather she has or not. Usually she begins to
complain of fatigue immediately after a battle (immediately = 4 to 5
seconds after the last enemy has been killed) and I do not cast spells
like restore until after the battle is over. (Maybe its my playing
style or just the characters in my group, but I do not cast "blue
magic" during any battles. During battles my mages are casting
nothing but offensive magic mm, breach, whip, summoning, etc....)
In playing tonight, I have noticed that she occasionally starts
complaining about fatigue after 8 or so hours of non combat activity.
i.e. walking between areas of the map etc.... All of this only
started happening after I put the boots of speed on her, before the
boots she had as much stamina as the rest of the party.
I think of this as a MAJOR cheat actually. What Moonfruit is saying is a
better sollution. Just speed up the frame rate. Giving all the boots of
speed is cheating the hell out of the game and if you still enjoy playing
that way, go ahaid, but I wouldn't feel too satisfied playing the game that
way...
You know, I don't even wanna trie using ShadowKeeper, as it's far too
tempting to give your game just a little change in your benefit and I don't
like it that way when cheating becomes that easy.

Actually I didn't even think about upping the frame rates. Until last
week I only had a celery 300 OCed->450 so raising the frame rates wasn't
even possible. but now with my screaming new athalon system I just uped
the frames to 60/sec and you're right works great!! I've now gotten rid
of my ill-gotten boots, and I no longer feel guilty about being able to
run away from monsters so fast.
Great game! I'm only on my 3rd time thru.. finally getting around to
using standard good NPCs (Iomen, Keldorn, Jaheira, Mazzy and Aerie) with
me as a Sorcerer romancing Jaheira. Finally getting to see what the
Yoshima fuss is all about too. What amazing replayability this game has.
Much better this way, huh?

The game is definately replayable, but I've just done my second time through
(haven't got ToB yet btw) and I just bought BG + TotSC and I think I'm gonna
play that one now. It took me a couple of weeks to do BG2, but that resulted
in some sleepless nights!! LOL
The cool thing about the game is that your choices can change the whole
game. I just did a run through as a Holy Saint (Paladin with a rep. of 20 +
4) doing nothing wrong. Next time (which means after I've done BG1 +TotSC)
I'm gonna do an evil game I think, teaming up with Bodhi. That should be
interesting as I've never chosen the road before...

U have to kill Renal to loot them. So u probably have to side with Bodhi
too.
I was able to find 5 pairs, Illasera doesn't leave Boots of Speed after
installing DavidGaider's ImprovedTougherIllasera patch...
You can't kill Renal if you side with Bodhi. Side with the Shadow
Thieves and wait until Chapter Six.

Another reason not to install that patch. :shudder:
yes... now everything is faster, but your enemys have at least the same
speed.

Eeeeeh, that's the whole point maybe?
If you want pussy enemies, why don't you set the difficulty level a little
lower?

It's just a question of the sequencing. First finish the quests of Renal,
kill him and then go to the graveyardand and side with Bodhi. Actually,
those boots of speed were the first ones I got.
survive Arkanis Gath...
Note that you are siding with Bodhi, so you don't need the thieves. I
doubt that he attacks you before he is scripted to show up at the docks.

What does happen if you attack the thieves in Chapter Two? Anyone have
any experience with that?
Yes, I do. I really got those boots in Chapter Two. Arkanis Gath didn't
attack. Unfortunately I forget if I first 1) finish Renal's quests, side
with Bodhi, go to kill Renal, do Bodhi's quests or 2) finish Renal's quests,
kill him, side with Bodhi.

Oh, I'm so stupid! If I really got those boots in Chapter 2, there's no
doubt that I killed Renal first before I sided with Bodhi.
Interesting. I heard of someone being attacked by Arkanis Gath when
s/he said the wrong thing to Mae'Var. I wonder what triggers AG
attacking.
The map you're on? I've never done the thief strnghold quests, but isn't
Mae'var on the same area map as Aran Linvail, whereas Renal Bloodscalp is
two floors up? I think Arkanis Gath only shows up if you enter combat on the
same map as the essential characters.
