Hi all,

I am on Chapter 3, with a full party of 6. My main Character is a Mage.

I Collected 4 Ankheg Carapaces from area 1400 and when I returned to
Beregost,
I could not get Taerom Fuirium to offer to make me any armour.

Any Ideas people?

Thanx in advance.,,

Allan

You have to refuse to sell it to him.. then he will offer to make you the
armor.

Has he already made a set, or bought one? He'll only deal with one
ankheg shell per game.

Did you take more than ten days to get to him? The shells are supposed
to rot. Maybe yours have done so.

Full plate is better anyway unless you have a fighter with low ST for
whom full plate weighs too much. Full plate + high DX + large shield
+1 means near-immunity to missiles. Of course, it's gruesomely
expensive.

Forget him, there's a suit hiding in the game. :)

RCV: In what way is Full plate better than Ankheg armor? Ankheg plate
has the same base AC as Full plate, and weighs half as much. They are even
comparable in price..
I have seen this idea a couple of times, so I am curious, what makes
heavier armor with the exact same base AC superior to Ankheg armor?

You cannot wear any other protection items with the Ankheg Armor (rings,
cloaks, necklaces). Therefore, you can get a lower AC with Full Plate.

Play hard-to-get.
Refuse to sell him one first

RCV: One AC level, big whoop. You can't do that with the +1 Plate
either, so I still don't see why anyone would prefer heavier armor.
Part of why I asked is 'cause some people I have talked to thought the
Ankheg armor was Plate Mail, not Full
Plate.... Rich

My two front rank fighters use full plate instead of Ankheg simply
because they can take the weight and later in the game there are so
many magic protection items, its silly not to wear them.

Ive had to sell a couple of +1 items already, as 4 characters already
had magic items and I decided to keep my ankheg armour on my Druid and
Archer. The shear amount of magic items in the game is probably
slightly too high.

The +1/2 amulets/rings/helms invariably give a +1/2 save modifier
aswell also increasing their worth.

As if your likely to find it unless someone tells you its location.

*Spoiler below*

Its on the Nakshel map to the far left of the map. Look in the very
left furrow of the seconed bown field down. Its a little above the
graphic of the pine tree which starts to obscure your view at the
bottom left of the field.

In addition to the inability to wear protection items
mentioned by several other posters, Ankheg Plate offers
only an additional -1 to missile/piercing and -3 to
slashing attacks, vs. Full Plate, which offers an
additional -3 to missile/piercing and -4 to slashing.
Thus, effective armor class:

Bludgeoning Piercing/Missile Slashing
Plate Mail 2 2 -1
Ankheg Plate 1 0 -2
Full Plate 1 -2 -3

As you can see, the Ankheg Plate is clearly inferior.
On the other hand, I usually give it to Jaheira. She
looks good in green, and I don't like to weigh her
down too much, so I can get a few extra gold by hauling
some swords back to the nearest shop.

You know, that just may be too complicated for some people.

For some odd reason, BGate considers ankheg armour 'magical',
so if wearing ankheg plate, it won't allow you to wear other
magical protective items, ie Ring +1, or Cloak +1, etc

Non-magical plate, or full-plate allows you to add a ring or a cloak
for further bonuses.

You learn something new every day. Nice one.
Goes a long way to explain how my two level6 front men are like
walking tanks nowardays. It isn't just my paranoia that though I used
to get hit more in their anheg days back when I couldnt afford full
plate and still bothered to loot the gibs of their pocket money.

If you want to sell three of the four carapaces, drop all but one to the
ground. Sell three, one at a time, then refuse to sell the fourth and the
smith will offer to make the armor. I think he can see when you have more than
one shell in your pack, but cannot see them when they are on the ground.
