Some very minor spoilers...
If you're encountering the wererats at the eastern end of the Weeping Stone
catacombs, give them a rest and go westwards instead - it's a little easier
that way and you should find some magic weapons.
If you want a decent weapon for Morte, solve the quest for the running girl
in the Hive area outside the mortuary - speak to her, then to a certain
person in the Burning Wizard. The resulting weapon is well worth it, and
quite unique.
Also, you should visit the Burning Wizard before doing the catacombs in any
case, since you can pick up an extra character there.
