BG1 letters

Can I safely throw all the letters away after I read them?

Also, I picked up this letter from a dead gnoll, it's has a joke about
a chair having arms and legs but can't move or hold stuff. Some shopkeeper
offers 100 gold for it, can I sell it or is it needed for some wacky quest?

Throw away. Those needed (useful) are marked as such -- a la
"you should keep it."

Chair: Sell it. It's a random loot item.

BTW, bounty notices usually bring 3 gp. Autograph 1(?) gp.

You can dump the vast majority of letters (or sell them - generally 1-3GP
each for a ransom note and the like) without any consequences. The ones you
need to keep are well flagged, so if you read the letter there will normally
be something along the lines of "this letter looks important, and you should
probably keep hold of it for now". This basically applies to less than half
a dozen letters in the entire game, and most of these only appear in chapter
5 or later.

As for letter from the Gnoll, sell it. It's meant to be an Easter Egg
AFAIK, but doesn't serve any useful purpose that I know of. Unless of
course you find the hidden cow dungeon in Durlag's Tower and the +5 Teeth
for Boo...
