I got this from www.avault.com a few days ago. The last part is what got me
smiling. BG story is over with(child of baal thing), but thier is more BG
for the PC on the way. ......(quote from bottom of paragraph)...."and
sequels to the multi-million unit selling Baldur's Gate franchise. .."

"Interplay Entertainment will maintain the license to develop and publish
role-playing games using the Dungeons & Dragons franchises of Baldur's Gate
and Icewind Dale, licensed from Infogrames Interactive, which retains the
rights to Neverwinter Nights. Dungeons & Dragons is owned by Wizards of the
Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro and licensed to Infogrames Interactive. The
multi-year, multi-product license allows Black Isle Studios, the
role-playing division of Interplay, to deliver PC and console games
worldwide. Dungeons & Dragons games currently in development include Icewind
Dale II for the PC, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for Xbox and sequels to the
multi-million unit selling Baldur's Gate franchise."

Now, in a way, there could not be a statement saying that more PC BG is
coming due to BIS and Interplay not officially saying anything specific.
Avault.com is a great, professional site, they dont do rumors and
speculation. But ask this, just what the hell is the multi-million unit
selling BG franchise? The damn PC games of course!

the *full* quote:

IE, BG:DA2. *not* BG3.

probably for the Hex-Box and maybe PS2, unless Interplay/Black Isle are
going to create a whole new BG license without Bioware... which seems
unlikely.

seeing as Interplay own Snowblind Studios, it's another shoddy, short,
half-RPG game.

How did you interpret that, Ironfist?

To me, the release says they're working on a number of different
things:

- Icewind Dale II for the PC
- Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for Xbox
- sequels to the multi-million unit selling Baldur's Gate franchise

First of all, there could be more than one sequel (unlikely, but
we can hope).

Second, it's not specified whether it's going to be Dark Alliance 2
or some kind of BG3. It could be. But they haven't said.

I don't think Interplay/BIS needs Bioware to continue marketing
Baldur's Gate games, based on what I've read on the forums at
feedback.blackisle.com

the key phrase is " and multi-million unit selling Baldur's Gate franchise."
The only thing multi-million selling is the PC games. If it was for
anything else, why would it be made out to be 3 diff. things in dev.?
I put this post up because it means BG is still alive in one way or
another, take it as you wish. But if it does mean more PC BG, you know you
will buy it.

Or "everything called Baldur's Gate, which includes the PC games."
Remember, the whole reason for calling BG:DA "Baldur's Gate" was to
capitalize on the name of the Baldur's Gate series.

If it's BG:DA2, then it's still three things: Icewind Dale 2, DA1 for
the XBox, and DA2. Mind you, I think that could be read either way, so
we'll see.

Definitely. I'm not very optimistic, though.

know the X-Com series?

one successful game name can become a million and one different things.

Baldur's Gate: Interceptor
Baldur's Gate: Throne of Football
Baldur's Gate: Civilisation VII

admittedly, they say "sequels"... but from the log of the chat with
Snowblind Studios, they're definitely going to make a DA2 at some stage -
and probably sooner than later, as the engine won't have to be updated much.

Baldur's Gate: Kobold Tactical Combat Game *and* DA2? :)

DA2: easy to cash in game on multiple formats, following a recent release
BG3: easy to cash in game on single format, following an old release and the
end of the trilogy. it'd require thought and work, which Interplay seem to
be avoiding currently.

that's partly correct. Interplay own Black Isle Studios, who owned Bioware.
as such, Interplay are the holders of the Baldur's Gate franchise, and could
make a MMORPG of BG if they chose.

having said that, I think Black Isle do have two titles in development
they've yet to announce. one is probably Fallout 3, but I still doubt
anything like the BG series to be done by them.

Totally incorrect.
Black Isle Studios published/produced for Bioware, they don't own them.
Not by a longshot.
Thank god.
