Hehe, wasn't that a riot? I actually survived two wing buffets, and got
him to barely injured before the characters started dropping. It is
said you CAN kill him with the right character lineup. hehe, like to
see that.
My roommate is having the same problem with the other dragon too.

Actually, you don't *have* to kill it - but it sure is fun to do so
anyway. :)
The way I did it was to have Yoshimo lay his greater traps around the
dragon, go back to the party, rest, and repeat. When I got about 20
traps on the floor in front of the dragon, I had Minsc shoot the dragon
and retreat - each time pulling the dragon through the trap field. He
was dead faster than s*it through a goose...
Kinda cheesy, but it worked.
KILL the dragon the gems and scales and scroll are worth it. (if I can
find the girdle of frost giant that is.)

That should read "chromatic orb", not "prismatic sphere."

Now that I'm stuck in the palace I think I'm going to go get that Shadow
Dragon.

If you are only interested in dead dragon and xp rather than an
interesting fight you can do it easily with cloudkill. I had my mage
fire two charges from a wand of cloukill at the edge of the 'fog of
war' where the dragon was. A long series of hit reports followed but
eventually it died without any of the party seeing it alive or getting
a scratch. (I saw the tactic posted elsewhere about another dragon, so
it's not my original idea).
Not much fun, but it allows you to finish the quest if you're getting
frustrated.

Dragon helm? I must have missed that one.
I got the dragon sword and dragon shield, but no helm. Can you
remember exactly where it was?

"Bother," said Pooh as he pushed Christopher Robin over the cliff.
I don't have Dragon helm, and I've never been to Windspear Hills... yet I
kicked the Sahdow Dragon's butt and killed it without reloading.
My party:
Christopher - Monk 11
Keldorn, Minsc, Jaheira, Aerie and Jan. All are around level 11 - 13.
I decided to attack before initiating a conversation. I moved Christopher,
Keldorn, Minsc and Jaheira to
surround the Shadow Dragon. I equipped them with best damaging abilities I
can afford.
Christopher - Flametongue + 1, +4 vs Undead, and Shadow Dragon should be
undead. Even if it's not, Flametongue is still +2 vs Evil.
Keldorn - The Daystar.
Minsc - Flail of Ages + 3, with 3 flail heads.
Jaheira - Scimitar + 2, +1 attack per round.
Christopher had AC of -3, while other three had -7.
Then I had Aerie cast Protection from Evil 10' radius, Bless and Chant. Then
I moved Aerie and Jan away a bit, to avoid Shadow Dragon attacking them.
Next I had Aeire cast Lower Resistance, and Jan cast Breach. Just before
they finish their spell casting (just before the orbs move), the four
blockers start the attack.
The two spells did what I want - removed Shadow Dragon's protection against
spells, and Aerie and Jan pumped it with all fast spells they had, to stop
Shadow Dragon casting any other spells.
Shadow Dragon did make some attacks - Dragon Fear. The four blockers are
pushed away from it, and some are feared. But that doesn't matter as Dragon
Fear only cause lowered combat abilities, not losing control of a character.
So I had the four blockers moved forward again to attack, and drank potions
as needed.
After a total of 2 Dragon Fear, the Shadow Dragon is down - Jan's Acid arrow
got it. And the four blockers only consumed 2 potions. Shadow Dragon never
made a successful hit on them - the damage is from the Dragon Fear's force
wave.
Hey, that's the very first time my party fight a boss toe-to-toe... they
used to rely on Fire Elementals.
And the same party finished the Unseeing Eye quest when they were about
level 10.

To get the dragon helm, you have to fiddle with the well dingus that is
outside the place that leads to the golems and to the jail. It isn't
really obvious. I just noticed that passing the cursor over the well
brought up the fiddle-with circle.
Perhaps, in BG3, they will explain how it came to pass that the dragon
helm got down the well in the first case.

I was wondering about this too, however I wasn't able to find anything that
would be able to move those mirrors. Perhaps it was something they didn't
have time to implement?
I notice in the Shadow Dragon cavern, there are what appear to be huge
mirrors up near the ceiling around the entire room, pointing toward the
center. I remember using reflected light from the stained-glass windows
at the entrance to the temple to kill the shadow creatures -- doesn't it
stand to reason that I could somehow use those huge mirrors to reflect a
bunch of light into the center of the Shadow Dragon cavern, and toast
his ass? Has anyone heard of and/or tried this? I couldn't see a way
to do anything with the mirrors: no switches, etc. They seemed to be
pointed down at the wrong angle -- you can see their dim reflected light
on the floor around the center of the cavern, but not IN the center. If
they were all aligned toward the center, though.....
