Hey all!! Been too busy playing to read the group lately. Yuchtar is
still stuck on that darned Werewolf island, so I started over with Peri.
She's a Fighter/Mage/Thief - great class, except she gets only ONE quick
weapon slot <grrrrrrrrrrr>

Some firsts - I picked up Viconia (and you only lose two rep points if
she joines your group - if you kill that guard who is chasing her and
tell her to take a hike, you don't lose any points ...) and I also met
up with Drizzt while Viconia was around and he didn't attack us -
someone had said he would instantly attack you if Viconia was with you,
but he didn't. In fact, he didn't even attack us when we attacked him!

You know that map that has The Surgeon on it? And there is some creature
that will kiss you and kill you if you try to talk to her? Well,
providing you don't send your primary character to speak to her, she
will resurrect the one she has killed and you can set her free by
killing the ogre mage (or whatever he was) who was holding her prisoner.
You get a lot of exp points for that .......

My group now consists of two neutral characters, two good and two evil -
perfectly balanced! :-)

Kagain is a cool character, but I finally let him go for Yeslick.
Viconia is good too, but I let her go for Quayle. Kagain is funny - he
says things like, "What are yous, morons? What did you think yous was
doin' back there?" LOL! and "Darned forests - always remind me of pansy
elves ..." <snicker>

In a house near the Palace in BG, you'll find a guy and his butler who
give you a really hard time for breaking in - I was only looking for
Rennie to give her the book she wanted, I would have left peacably if
they hadn't gotten all high-n-mighty. First the butler will tell you off
and when you kill him, go upstairs where you'll find the master - his
name begins with a J, but I can't recall what it is .... He's a TOUGH
SOB, but when you finally kill him, you'll find he wears the Helm of
Glory, which gives you +1 AC and +1 Charisma - I let Quayle wear it.

First time I ever actually got poisoned. Is it possible to die of that
poison wiothout ever being told you've been poisoned? Yuchtar may yet
still die <shrug>

Anyway, my problem now is - where the heck is the Splurging Strugeon
Inn?? I've got a quest to finish and I'm supposed to meet someone there.
It's on my map of Baldur's Gate - the paper one you get with the game -
and it's right near the Blushing Mermaid Inn, but I can't find it
anywhere in the City!

TTFN!

If you're looking for a decent map of BG city, look no further than
http://www.pottsland.com/baldur/. There are really good maps and
walkthroughs there.

<pout pout pout> Guess that little girl is just going to have to die,
cuz I can't get this spell book to her momma <pout pout>

So, if he won't talk, then there's no other way for me to find out more? He
pretty much gives me the cold shoulder; maybe a rep=20 problem?

Yer welcome, it is a weird place for the door; not at the front of the
building, but down the back of the side alley. I found it fairly easily,
but there have been other doors, stairs, etc that have given me loads of
grief.

My rep is only 10 and all he says is, "So, how are you getting along
with Arkion and Nemphre?" or some such thing. I brought Arkion a body,
just to see what he'd do and he gave me 500 gold for it and said
something about Nemphre and that he'd "get that ring yet" but Nemphre
was rude to me and didn't want to know me, so I am really curious as to
what they're up to .......

And this:

Aaaaahhhhhhhhh - so go talk to him again, then ........... <nod nod>

Did you clear out the cache yet, that might solve it. I don't think it's a
known bug.

Was a different building - never did get into it. I finally found the
Inn - it was hiding ....

Do you just go into the cache folder and delete everything or is there a
special way to clear it? I tend not to mess with stuff I know nothing
about. OKay, so that's not strictly true, as I actually know nothing
about everything, but <waving hand> Never mind ......

Thanks

There's no special way. Just get to the 'cache/data' folder and delete
the files. [they should all be .bif files]. The game replaces them from
the CD next time you go back to each area.

This cache clearance is safe and sorts out a lot of the
'repeating/blocked access/failed movement' sorts of problems that you
will come across and are caused by damaged files.

In this case, it IS a known bug, as there is one building in BG city which
CANNOT be entered due to missind data. Does anyone know of a version in
which this has been corrected?

I'd be interested to know where this is. I haven't come across it yet
and thought I'd tried all the BG buildings by now.

Thanks! {{:-)

As to where the building is that can't be gotten into ..............
can't remember <frown> Must be near the Inn, though - maybe .... When
I'm in BG city again, I'll find it again (assuming I EVER get off this
damned island!)

The door to the house is not visible, as it faces NW, but there is still an
entrance to the house.

If the house entrance is at 3500, 850 AR0700, they f****d it
up!!! Anyway, that house was accessible in pre-TOSC v4315, i.e.,
before I installed TOSC & patched to v5512. Inside was just an
ordinary BG residence, nothing memorable to steal. Maybe nothing
at all.

Actually, I have been able to enter that house with the game without TOSTC
and the patchs (cannot remenber what I had found though). Now, with Tales &
the latest international patch, there is no way in, and the game craches. In
fact, I get an error message saying that a file cannot be found ; IIRC, that
file has already been asked on that newsgroup, but no answer had been given
which solved the problem.
