A messenger has turned up to tell Nalia about her fathers funeral (I've
already done the Stronghold quest). I agreed to go with her to the funeral
immediately so off we went. Got there, was greeted by an usher, pointed
upstairs. Talked to all the guests at the funeral and left. Now 2 days
later, Nalia has complained that she needs to go to the funeral
*immediately* or she's going on her own.

I've looked at my journal, and the funeral quest entry is still active.
What do I need to do to complete this? Or is this a bug?

Did your PC talk to the people at the funeral or did *Nalia* talk to the
people. You will get two different responses in this case and you need to
specifically select Nalia to talk to the people.

Hope this helps,

Many thanks Kevin.

This strikes me as odd as almost everywhere else in the game you just have
to talk to people "generally" and it involves your whole party in the
discussion.

Never mind, done now.

I'm noticing this occuring before. In some situations, you get better
results when one of your NPCs does the talking, not you. However, you
can't tell when.

For example, in the Copper Coronet, if you have Yoshimo do the talking to
some of the NPCs, you find out some information you did not know, as
Yoshimo knows one of the NPCs.

The problem is that this isn't obvious, so short of having every NPC talk
one at a time, I'm not sure what the best route it. It'd be nice if you
talked, everyone in your group was involved.

Yeah, I tried it just because I figured *something* should happen at the
funeral. The game is really inconsistent about who needs to talk to a
particular NPC.

Well gee, that's weird, because Jaheira can't talk to anyone...
When I told her to talk to an Elven mage for example, it shows the following
in red:
Jaheira-Dare I ask where you've kept him?
or
Jaheira-100 gold? We're not common mercenaries.
It's just a bunch of random messages...the dialogue box doesn't even pop up

What about using common sense. It never occurred to me to have anyone else
but Nalia speak to the guests first. In any quests connected to an NPC in
my party, I usually make that one leader when it comes to talking.

Another thing that I noticed, you might get a different conversation if one
of your NPC is away, just move them far from the party will do.

Regards

I don't think its common sense I think its inconsistency in the game. If my
PC is talking to a bunch of harpers Jaheira will automatically make comments
during the conversation without me having to select her. All of my
characters do the same thing. So it didn't seem necessary to always select
a certain person. Plus its a little bit cumbersome to try and cycle through
all of your characters every time you talk to someone just to try and glean
a little more info.

Do you have NPC feedback turned down, by any chance? When I went to the
funeral today, my PC talked to the guests, but Nalia still spoke up during
each conversation, and when I tried getting Nalia to talk to them alone, she
didn't get any different responses. What did happen was that, after her
fiance left, she piped up on her own, became very expressive in her opinions
of him and then said it was time to leave. Possibly the reason your quest
wasn't marked as finished is that you left before giving her time to
initiate tha last dialogue. You may simply have needed to leave your party
standing for a few seconds to let her start talking.
